WICHITA, Kan.
-- Playing for the second time in a different state in less than 24 hours, the Bradley women's tennis team fell behind early against #71 Wichita State and never recovered as the Shockers cruised to a 7-0 Missouri Valley Conference win over the Braves Sunday afternoon at the Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita, Kan.
The Shockers controlled each of the three doubles contests to take an early lead in the dual. Anna Egorova and Lutfiana Budiharto claimed an 8-3 win at the top doubles spot against Bradley sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) and junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.). Lenore Lazaroiu and Laryssa Ferriera followed by blanking BU juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy), 8-0, while Florentina Hanisch and Torrie Browning provided the hosts with an 8-4 win at No. 3 against the BU pairing of seniors Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) and Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School).
Egorova used a 6-2, 6-1 win over Miller at No. 1 to start the Shockers in singles play, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 for Budiharto over Bradley freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.). Browning didn't lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Regenold at No. 3 while Lazariou beat Donohue in straight sets at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. Hanisch was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Buterbaugh at No. 5 and Ferreira turned aside Krubeck 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 for the singles sweep.
The loss is the fifth in a row and drops the Braves to 8-9 overall and 0-4 in Valley play. Bradley will return to the court for a 1 p.m. home match against Drake on Friday, April 10.
