PEORIA, Ill. - Former Bradley Baseball player Dan Brewer continues to swing a hot bat for the Tampa Yankees (New York Yankees) of the Class A Advanced Florida State League. In 48 games for the Yankees, Brewer is batting .299 with four homeruns and 28 RBI's. His 2009 season stats include a .312 batting average, 22 doubles, six homeruns and 53 RBI's.
Last Sunday, Brewer went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs as the Yankees defeated Clearwater 9-6. He followed his Sunday performance with three more hits, including a homerun and five RBI's in a 13-0 rout of Daytona last Monday. With the help of Brewer's bat, the Yankees have won eight of their last 10 games and have a seven-game lead in the FSL North Division.
Ryan Curry belted two homeruns and recorded four RBI's last Sunday for the Jupiter Hammerheads (Florida Marlins) of the Class A Advanced Florida State League. The former Brave is batting .274 with 17 doubles, nine homeruns and 27 RBI's. Curry also boasts an eye-popping .364 average when facing left-handers.
Right-handed pitcher Brandon Magee is currently on the 7-day disabled list for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) of the Double-A Eastern League. As a reliever, Magee holds a 1.93 earned run average with the opposition batting a mere .071 against him.
Another ex-Bradley right-hander Rob Scahill continues to shine on the mound for the Tri-City Dust Devils (Colorado Rockies) of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League. In his last three starts, Scahill surrendered only three earned runs. He leads the Dust Devils pitching staff with 46 strikeouts and has issued only 16 walks. In his six road starts, Scahill boasts a 1.08 ERA with an opponent's batting average of .170. Tri-City is currently 36-26 and has a 6.0 game lead in the NOR East Division.
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Brian Shouse's ERA continues to drop after his return from the disabled list on July 27. The left-hander has not allowed an earned run in his last nine appearances. Shouse and the Rays are currently third in the American League Wild Card standings; 3.0 games behind the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers.
