The Braves in Brazil Blog
August 6 2009 -- Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications

The Bradley Basketball team begins its trip to Brazil today and the Braves are on their way to O'Hare for the first leg of the flight.  Future blog entries will be located below the Student Blog header on the Bradley Athletics main page at www.bradleybraves.com

The trip got started a bit earlier for one member of the travel party, me, than the rest of the group.  I have been on vacation in Colorado with my family and flew into Chicago this morning to meet the team.  There is nothing quite like waking up at 3:45 for a 6:15 flight!  Even better is the extended wait in the O'Hare terminal for the team.  A small price to pay, I guess.

This should be my only blog of the trip, although I will provide regular updates at www.twitter.com/BradleySports as long as I have internet service.  The rest of the blogging will be done by the team.  I will have a different team member post a blog at least once a day and let them describe their experiences for all to enjoy.  I'll do my best to upload some photos, and maybe even a video clip or two (fingers crossed), throughout the trip, too.

On behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank the many supporters of Bradley Basketball that helped make this trip a reality.  We are being presented a wonderful opportunity to see a part of the world most of us would never be able visit on our own.  The trip definitely has basketball benefits, but I am sure we all will grow as individuals through the many once-in-a-lifetime experiences ahead of us the next 10 days.

I know this has been mentioned before, but I wanted to remind everyone this is the Basketball team's first preseason trip off the North American continent since a 1985 excursion to Italy.  Those Braves, who coincidentally included a senior point guard named Jim Les, went on to enjoy one of the greatest seasons in Bradley Basketball history -- 32-3 overall record and the last unbeaten (16-0) regular-season Missouri Valley Conference record in league history.  No pressure guys ... LOL!

Thank you for checking out the first Braves in Brazil Blog and be on the lookout for future updates from the rest of the team.
