NORMAL, Ill. - The Bradley women's tennis team opened its fall schedule at the Illinois State Invitational Friday with senior Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and freshman Kennedy Scott (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) earning wins in Flight D singles action.
In her first career match at Bradley, Scott defeated Valerie Vinluan of Butler in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Buterbaugh picked up her first singles victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Illinois State's Sarah Streitz.
In Flight A singles, junior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) dropped her opening round match to Julia Zubkova from Illinois State 6-4, 6-4. Senior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) also fell in her first match of the season 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 to Butler's Cam Thompson in Flight B singles. In Flight C singles, senior Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) lost to Butler's Brittany Farmer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Miller, Regenold and Donohue will compete in consolation matches Saturday.
The Braves picked up two doubles wins Friday from Miller/Regenold and Buterbaugh/Donohue. Miller/Regenold handled Butler's Hayward/Panawash 8-1, while Buterbaugh/Donohue edged Morehead State's Delamey/Helms 8-6.
