PEORIA, Ill. - Last Wednesday, Dan Brewer and the Tampa Yankees (New York Yankees) claimed the Class A Advanced Florida State League Championship with a 5-2 victory against the Charlotte Stone Crabs in game five of the best-of-five series. The win was Brewer's first ever post-season title and Tampa's first outright championship in 15 years.
In 20 post-season at-bats, Brewer had seven hits, including one double and three RBI's. His 2009 season stats include a .306 batting average, 25 doubles, six homeruns and 54 RBI's. Brewer earned Florida State League Player of the Week honors on Aug. 10 for his performance during the week of Aug. 3-9 when he went 14-for-22 at the plate with two homeruns and five RBI's.
Tampa Bay Rays' relief pitcher Brian Shouse has surrendered only one earned run and three hits in his last eight appearances. Shouse is 1-1 with a 5.11 earned run average in 40 games this season. After dropping 13 of their last 14, the Rays are in the midst of a four-game winning streak. Tampa Bay trails the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card standings by 13.0 games.
