PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley welcomes Chicago State to Renaissance Coliseum Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match in the final non-conference contest of the 2010 season for the Braves. The match against the Cougars wraps up a three-game homestand and falls before Bradley hits the road for four of the final seven matches of the regular season.
Tuesday's match is the 14th meeting between the two programs, but just the second time the two in-state foes have faced each other since 1999. Bradley holds a 10-3 edge in the all-time series which dates back to the 1976 season and BU enters Tuesday's tilt with an eight-match win streak in the series against the Cougars.
The Braves have made a habit of winning the final non-conference match of the year, posting a 19-8 (.704) record in those matches since joining the Gateway Conference for the 1983 season. Bradley is 12-3 (.800) when playing the final non-conference match of the season at home.
Freshman Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) tallied a team-best 12 kills to lead the Braves Sunday against Drake and is BU's season leader in both kills and blocks. She is looking to become the third underclassmen to lead the team in both categories and first since Joy Ostendorf accomplished the feat during her sophomore season (1994).
Junior Rachelle Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) moved into 13th on Bradley's career digs list Sunday with a season-high 25 digs against the Bulldogs. Dejean enters the matchup with Chicago State with 992 career digs and needs eight digs to reach 1,000 in her career. She would be the first BU player since Stephanie Behrns during the 1992 season to reach the 1,000-dig mark and is 14 digs from moving into 12th on the Braves career chart.
