INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Junior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) shot a career-best, two-under par 70 to claim individual medalist honors at the Butler Fall Invitational Tuesday and senior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) tied for second in the field to help the Bradley women's golf team claim their first team title in a tournament since 2008.
Amundrud followed up her opening round 73 with a tournament-best, two-under par 70 Tuesday at the par-72 Pines Course at Eagle Creek Golf Club en route to claiming individual medalist honors with a 36-hole score of one-under par 143. She finished six shots ahead of her nearest competitor and is the first Bradley women's golfer to win medalist honors since Neufeld won the individual title at the 2009 Duramed MAC Preview in Fishers, Ind., last October. Amundrud won medalist honors for the first time in her career and posted her fifth consecutive top-10 finish.
The Braves entered the final round with a six-shot lead and tied for low-round honors on Tuesday with the team's third consecutive round of 301 to finish 11 shots ahead of second-place finisher Western Kentucky (613). Wisconsin-Green Bay was third in the field with a two-round total of 619 and tournament-host Butler finished fourth overall at 621. Bradley's last team title came in October 2008 when the Braves finished first of nine teams at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Panora, Iowa.
Neufeld finished six shots behind Amundrud in a tie for second with Western Kentucky's Jordan Magruder at 149 after firing a final round 76 for her first top-10 finish of the season. Senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) carded a season-best 75 during Tuesday's action and was four shots back of Neufeld in a tie for 10th at 153. The 10th-place finish was the second of Deeken's career and first since tying for third at the MVC Preview in Oct. 2008.
Freshman Ali Daly (Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque) tied for 43rd overall at 163 after closing out play with an 80 and junior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) rounded out the team scoring with an 88 to finish tied for 50th at 158. Sophomore Natalie Wisniewski (Williamsville, N.Y./South) was in the field as an individual and tied for 48th at 164, shooting a final-round 81.
Bradley has turned in scores of 301 in each of the last three rounds, marking the first time BU has three consecutive rounds of 301 or better in the same season. The Braves did shoot scores of 296 and 295 at the 2007 State Farm MVC Championship and opened the 2007 Fall season with a 301.
Western Illinois was fifth in the team standings, 21 back of Bradley at 623, with IUPUI following in sixth (627) and Eastern Illinois in seventh (628). Chicago State closed out play in eighth (633), while DePauw (9th - 638) and Loyola (10th - 640) rounded out the top 10. Indiana State and Valparaiso tied for 11th in the standings at 649 and Cleveland State was 13th overall at 663. Olivet Nazarene rounded out the field in 14th at 763.
