PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley rallied late in the second half for the second night in a row to defeat Loyola Marymount 59-57 in the second round of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Carver Arena.
The Braves (3-0) trailed 54-46 with 7:19 to play, but went on a 12-2 run to finish the game. Senior guard Sam Maniscalco scored on a turnaround jumper with 2:58 remaining, to give the Braves the lead for good, 55-54, and junior center Anthony Thompson's putback basket with 1:12 remaining gave Bradley a 3-point cushion.
Maniscalco finished the game with a team high 14 points and fellow senior guard Dodie Dunson had 10 points for the Braves. Vernon Teels led the Lions with a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds. Drew Viney also added 12 points and 9 rebounds for the Lions.
Bradley gutted out its 21st consecutive November home win, despite shooting just 30.4 percent (17-56) from the field and being outrebounded by a 50-33 margin. The Braves countered by limiting LMU to 38.3 percent field goal shooting, forcing 24 Lions turnovers and outscoring the visitors by nine (21-12) from the free throw line.
Bradley will next play the final two rounds of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament this weekend at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., where the Braves will challenge Southern California Saturday and TCU Sunday, both at 4 p.m. (CST). They will then return home to play Eastern Illinois at Carver Arena at 7:05pm CT.
