PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Rachelle Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping the Bradley volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week.
Dejean averaged 5.09 digs per set in three matches last week to help highlight Bradley's defensive efforts. She tallied 13 digs to help the Braves to a sweep of Chicago State as she became the 13th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs. Dejean helped BU to its first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season Friday at Evansville, finishing with 23 digs against the Purple Aces to move into 12th on Bradley's career digs list. She capped the week with 20 digs Saturday at Southern Illinois in a four-set loss. An advertising major, Dejean owns a 3.71 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Dejean and the Braves return to action Friday when they open a three-match homestand with a 7 p.m. contest against 13th-ranked Northern Iowa at Renaissance Coliseum.
