PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley senior guard Andrew Warren (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) scored a game-high 23 points and freshman center Jordan Prosser (Goodfield, Ill./Eureka H.S.) enjoyed his first career double-digit scoring effort by adding 10 points, leading the Braves (5-5) to a 64-55 non-conference men's basketball victory versus Jackson State (4-8) Monday night at Carver Arena.
Playing for the first time in 12 days, its longest regular-season break in a decade, Bradley halted its five-game losing streak and now will have just one day to get ready for its final non-conference tuneup. The Braves will host Detroit Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Carver Arena, before opening the 18-game Missouri Valley Conference slate Dec. 29 at Indiana State.
Jackson State also put two players in double-figures offensively: forwards Tyrone Hansen and Grant Maxey with 22 and 16 points, respectively.
Bradley used some suffocating defense and efficient offense to race to their largest lead of the season, a 20-point margin (30-10), with 3:30 left in the first half, before settling for a 32-20 advantage at the break. While Bradley was shooting an even 50 percent (13-26) from the floor in the first half, Jackson State made just 7-of-27 (.259) first-half field goal attempts and the visiting Tigers committed 14 turnovers before the break.
With Bradley stuck on a 14-10 advantage for nearly two minutes, Warren started a 16-0 Braves run by draining consecutive 3-pointers.
While Jackson State heated up in the second half by making 56 percent (14-25) of their field goal attempts, Bradley was even hotter as the Braves shot 64.7 percent (11-17) in the final 20 minutes. The hot shooting allowed the Braves to maintain their double-digit advantage until Jackson State finally sliced its deficit to 61-52 with 2:08 left.
