PEORIA - After leading Bradley (6-5) to a pair of wins last week by averaging 23.5 points per game, Braves senior guard Andrew Warren (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) today has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
In addition to averaging 23.5 points, Warren contributed 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in last week's home wins against Jackson State and Detroit and he committed only one turnover in his 74 combined minutes. In Monday's 64-55 win against Jackson State, Warren scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and had a steal in his 37 minutes. In Wednesday's 73-65 win against Detroit, Warren again led all scorers with 24 points while adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The 6-foot-6 guard shot 56 percent (14-25) from the field, 46.7 percent (7-15) from 3-point range and was 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the two games last week. His back-to-back 3-pointers ignited a 16-0 Bradley run that broke open the Jackson State game and his six free throws in the final 1:15 locked up Wednesday's win against Detroit.
As the 18-game Valley schedule tips off Wednesday, Warren leads the league in scoring (18.7 ppg), steals (1.5 spg), free throw percentage (.900) and free throws made (54). He also is Bradley's top rebounder at 5.8 boards per game.
Warren has climbed to 26th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,225 career points and at his current average of 18.7 points per game, Warren has a shot at cracking the school's all-time top 10 by season's end.
Warren first won The Valley's Player-of-the-Week Award Dec. 18, 2007 after the then sophomore guard was named to the all-tournament team at the South Padre Island Invitational. He is the second Bradley guard to be named Valley Player of the Week this season, following now-injured Sam Maniscalco, who won the award Nov. 22.
Warren and the Braves will return to action at 6:05 p.m. (CST) Wednesday at Indiana State. The Valley opener for both teams will be televised throughout Central Illinois on WTVP World, which appears over the air on channel 47.2, on Comcast Digital Cable channel 218 and on Mediacom Digital Cable channel 122.
