Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Senior Amanda Clack (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and went 2-for-4 with a run scored at the plate to help power Bradley to a 2-1 victory against Temple in the Braves opening game of the Under Armour Invitational Friday morning.
Clack opened the game with a single and stole second for her team-best seventh steal of the year. She came around to score on a single to center by junior Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee) to give Bradley an early 1-0 lead.
The Braves (7-4 overall) threatened to break the game open in the fourth inning after loading the bases with just one out, but Temple's (1-4 overall) Kristen Marris notched a pair of strikeouts to get out of the jam.
Bradley struck for another run in the top of the sixth inning after freshman Taylor Cox (Loveland, Colo./Andover) drew a one-out walk. Cox was thrown out on an Alison Kresl (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) single and Kresl came around to score on a double off the bat of senior Janay Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) as the Braves pushed the advantage to 2-0.
The Owls struck for a run in the bottom half of the sixth. Temple opened the inning with back-to-back walks and had runners at second and third after a groundout. Samantha Schoell was able to race home from third on a passed ball with two outs as Bradley's lead was trimmed to 2-1.
Temple left runners on in four of the first six innings, but didn't get a hit off Clack until the bottom of the seventh inning. Crystal Nyman led off the inning with an infield single and pinch runner Alysse Pujol moved to second on a ground out. Pujol, who moved to third on a throwing error on the play, was thrown out at the plate trying to score for the second out of the inning. Michelle Lerner grounded out to first base to end the game as Clack improved to 4-1 on the year with a complete game win.
Clack struck out four and walked four, while giving up one unearned run in addition to her 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Fairbairn finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Mitchell was 2-for-2 with one run driven in. Marris struck out 10 Bradley hitters, but gave up seven hits, four walks and two runs in the loss to fall to 1-1.
