PEORIA, Ill. - Seniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.), Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) played the final home match of their Bradley careers, but Creighton played the role of spoiler with a 6-1 Missouri Valley Conference victory Sunday afternoon at the Markin Tennis Courts.
Bradley's lone point came at No. 5 singles as freshman Kennedy Scott (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) edged Lindsey Erickson in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. The Braves also earned a win at No. 2 doubles as Donohue and Buterbaugh teamed up to take down Leesa Cadwallader/Sarah Cadwallader 8-5. Creighton claimed the doubles point by taking the remaining two doubles bouts.
At No. 1 doubles, Regenold and junior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S) fell to Anna Kirshenbaum/Kelsey Schmidt 8-4, while Tess Reddin/Mary Pat McMullan blanked Scott and freshman Brigitte Graf (Double Oak, Texas/Faustina Academy) at the No. 3 spot 8-0.
In singles play, Miller dropped her No. 1 match in three sets to Reddin 6-3, 6-7 (3), 10-4, while Kirshenbaum topped Regenold 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Lauren Mastro defeated Donohue at the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-3 and Schmidt topped Buterbaugh at the No. 4 spot 6-2, 6-2. The Bluejays made it 5-for-6 in singles play with a win at the No. 6 spot as McMullan handled Graf 6-0, 6-1.
The Braves (5-13, 0-5 MVC) will continue MVC play Saturday, April 17 at Drake at 1 p.m.
