PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior second baseman Matt Fritz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North/DePauw University) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Tuesday after helping the Bradley baseball team to a 2-2 record last week.

Fritz hit .429 for the week (6-for-14) with seven runs scored and six RBI.  He had one triple and two home runs to his credit, while also stealing a base in four outings.  He opened the week with a 3-for-4 effort in a 10-9 win against Western Illinois, belting a game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Fritz drove in three runs and scored three times against the Leathernecks.  In the weekend series against Creighton, he was 3-for-10 with a triple and a home run, while scoring four runs and driving in three.  A criminal justice major, Fritz owns a 3.12 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Fritz and the Braves return to action Wednesday when they close out a season-long 10-game homestand with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at O'Brien Field.
