PEORIA, Ill. -- Third-year Bradley Volleyball head coach Sean Burdette announced Metamora High School standout Brianna Lampe and 6-1 middle blocker Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) will join the Bradley Volleyball team for the 2010 season.
A six-foot outside hitter, Lampe was one of Metamora's top attackers and helped the Redbirds to an impressive 100-13 record in her three varsity seasons. A Peoria Journal Star All-Area First-Team selection, she helped Metamora to two Class 3A Elite Eight appearances. Lampe was a two-time First-Team Mid-Illini Conference pick and also earned special mention all-state recognition from the Champaign News-Gazette. She played club volleyball with both EastSide Volleyball Club and Peoria Volleyball Academy.
"Brianna is a very versatile player, who has the ability to play across the front row," Burdette said. She is quick off the floor and possesses a very fast arm in addition to being a natural athlete and blocker. We expect her to play primarily on the outside which will allow us to take advantage of her athleticism and live arm, but she has the ability to be a very effective six-rotation player."
A three-year varsity letterwinner, Angelos helped Waukegan to a Regional Finals appearance last fall and was an all-conference pick in the Central Suburban League. She played club volleyball with Wisconsin Juniors Volleyball Club, where her team finished third at the 17 Club Division JVA national Championships in 2009 and fifth in the 16 Open Division JVA National Championship in 2008. Her twin sister will be a freshman on the volleyball team at Northern Illinois this fall.
"Amy took part in our summer camp last year and really impressed me with how quickly and eagerly she learned," Burdette said. "Since that time she has improved her speed, strength and skills, especially during the club season. She is an athletic middle blocker and has continued to improve offensively. She attacks a true first tempo ball and is proficient attacking in front or behind the setter. Her drive and determination will allow her to succeed both on and off the court.
"Both Amy and Brianna have a huge upside in their volleyball careers, and we are excited to have them both be a part of our incoming freshman class," Burdette stated.
The duo push Bradley's incoming freshman class to four as they join 6-2 middle blocker Allie Falter (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) and six-foot middle blocker Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) on the 2010 roster.
