PEORIA, Ill. -- Seniors Amanda Clack (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) and Janay Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) were both named honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes announced by the league office Monday. Mitchell earned honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete honors for the second consecutive year, while the honor was the first for Clack.
A Second-Team All-Valley selection, Clack ranked 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference with a .313 batting average and led Bradley in batting average (.313), starts (47), at bats (144), runs (20), hits (45), sacrifice hits (9) and stolen bases (12) this spring. In addition to her offensive numbers, she also led the squad in ERA (3.53), wins (8), appearances (31), complete games (5), saves (2), innings pitched (107.0) and strikeouts (87) in the circle. The first Bradley player to hit over .300 since 2006, Clack's 45 hits this season were the most by a Brave since 2005.
An all-tournament selection at the Troy Cox Classic, Clack is the first player to lead the team in batting average and wins in the same season and she set the Bradley season record for relief appearances with 18. She hit a team-best .357 with runner on base and her .389 average with runners in scoring position also led the squad. Clack owned a .306 batting average in Missouri Valley Conference play and had a team-leading 13 multi-hit games. A graphic design major, she owns a 3.36 cumulative grade point average.
A repeat honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete, Mitchell was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Candidate and earned Second-Team All-Valley honors after she tied for second on the team with a .295 batting average. She ranked third on the squad in runs (19) and on base percentage (.355), while driving in a career-best 14 runs. Mitchell hit .313 in conference play and was second on the team in both hits (38) and stolen bases (11).
Mitchell tied for the longest hit streak on the team at eight games and owned a .339 batting average with runner on base. She finished her career fifth in school history with 36 career stolen bases and is tied for sixth at BU with 24 career sacrifice hits. An international business major, she owns a 3.55 cumulative grade point average.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallel the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic ESPN the Magazine All-America voting. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions, and must have participated in at least 75 percent of a team's games.
