Former Bradley Soccer stars Joe Donoho and Luke Kreamalmeyer will continue their participation in the country's national championship event Tuesday when their respective pro teams play second-round games in the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Both former Braves play for teams in the newly-formed USSF Division-2, Donoho for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Kreamalmeyer for AC St. Louis. The Rowdies advanced to the second round with a 3-0 victory against Legends FC, while AC St. Louis knocked out the Des Moines Menace, 1-0. With the opportunity to face Major League Soccer teams in the third round, both teams will match up against USSF Division-2 league rivals in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup Tuesday: the Houston Dynamo awaits the Tampa Bay-Miami FC winner, while the Los Angeles Galaxy will take on the AC St. Louis-NSC Minnesota victor.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup dates back to 1914 and is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the 2010 tournament is the 97th in the history of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The 2010 champion will receive a $100,000 payday and earn a spot in the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League, a 24-team club championship for teams in the North and Central American region that will reward the winner with a $1 million prize.
