PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley is one of 10 NCAA Division I teams to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award in six consecutive seasons according to a recent announcement by the AVCA. The Braves are one of nine Missouri Valley Conference teams and part of a record 94 NCAA Division I programs to earn the recognition from the AVCA.
All 15 members of the team posted a 3.0 grade point average in at least one semester with 11 individuals landing on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters of the 2009-10 school year. The team earned a 3.48 grade point average for the 2009-10 academic year.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors teams which displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
One of four Missouri Valley Conference teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award each of the last six years, the Braves are joined by American, Bowling Green, Creighton, Denver, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Memphis, Toledo and Wichita State in the exclusive group.
Bradley has had 19 first-team MVC scholar-athlete selections since 1998 and has a total of 10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honorees over the last 10 years.
Third-year head coach Sean Burdette and his squad open practice on August 9. The Braves season opener is slated for Friday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. against Western Illinois as part of the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational in the first athletic competition in the new Bradley arena.
Season tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for children (K-12) at the Bradley Athletics Ticket Office. Personal Seat Options (PSO) also are available through the Bradley Athletics Ticket Office. With a maximum of 500 seats available in two levels, PSO ($500) and PSO Gold ($1,000), Personal Seat Options entitle owners to women's basketball and volleyball season tickets for the upcoming season, as well as the opportunity to purchase tickets in their selected seats for any event in the arena, excluding commencement ceremonies, from Aug. 1, 2010-July 31, 2011.
