Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Junior MacKenzie Westcott (Williamsburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) scored a career high 18 points and two Bradley players turned in double-doubles, but Creighton's Carli Tritz scored eight consecutive points in the second half to help the Bluejays pull away and top BU 73-58 Saturday at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Bradley (8-9 overall, 1-5 MVC) got off to a slow start offensively, making just 6-of-21 to open the game and trailed by as many as 13 points (25-12) with 6:34 to play in the first half. The Braves made 6-of-9 shots down the stretch with Westcott scoring 10 of her 14 first-half points in the final four and a half minutes to help Bradley pull within five at the break (34-29).
Two days after not attempting a shot in the game at Drake, Westcott took over in the closing minutes of the first half; scoring the final seven points of the period to help the Braves cut the deficit to five. She made 6-of-8 from the field in the first 20 minutes and finished 8-of-12 on the day en route to a career-best 18 points.
BU trailed 42-37 after a Westcott layup, but Tritz hit back-to-back three-pointers to start an 8-2 run and scored all eight points during the spurt to push the lead back to double digits at 52-41 with 11:33 remaining.
Creighton (10-6 overall, 4-1 MVC) led 62-51 following a Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) hoop with 7:23 to play, but Bradley went scoreless for nearly six minutes before a Brooke Bisping (Morton, Ill./Morton) basket with 1:30 to play ended the drought. The Bluejays took their biggest lead of the game (67-51) during BU's dry spell and ended Bradley's three-game win streak in the series with a 73-58 victory.
Bradley shot 41 percent from the field and outrebounded Creighton 42-33, but committed 23 turnovers. Taylor collected 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for her fifth career double-double; while junior Latasha Hollingshed (Bellwood, Ill./St. Joseph/Illinois Central) turned in her team-leading third double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 boards.
The Bluejays attempted a season-high 36 three-pointers, finishing 9-of-36 from beyond the arc. The Braves held Creighton's leading scorer Kelsey Woodard to seven points, but Tritz picked up the scoring and paced Creighton with team-high totals of 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Sam Schuett added 11 points and Kellie Nelson joined the duo in double figures with 10 points.
Bradley returns to action Friday when the Braves host Southern Illinois in a 7:05 p.m. game at Renaissance Coliseum. The game against the Salukis will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest and Comcast Chicago.
