Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Southern Illinois scored the first basket of the game, but Bradley answered with a 25-3 run and never looked back as the Braves topped the Salukis 80-44 Friday at Renaissance Coliseum. Senior Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) scored a game-high 17 points, while sophomore Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) and freshman Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) each had 16 points to lead BU.
Yohn helped fuel the opening run with eight points and an assist, while Taylor scored six during the opening spurt which put the Braves (9-9 overall, 2-5 MVC) comfortably in the lead. Bradley pushed the lead to as many as 25 points (33-8) in the first half on an Alyson Spinas-Valainis (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) basket with six minutes to play and led 39-17 at the half.
The Braves forced 17 SIU turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play and finished with 12 first-half steals. Bradley collected a season-best 19 steals in the contest off of 30 SIU miscues. The 17 points by the Salukis in the first half was the lowest point total by a BU opponent in a half since Northern Iowa scored 16 points in the second half of a game in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Jan. 17, 2004.
Southern Illinois (2-15 overall, 0-6 MVC) hit a three-pointer to open the second half, before Yohn highlighted a 12-0 BU run with eight points and an assist to help the Braves push the lead to 51-20 with 16:25 to play as Bradley cruised to the 80-44 victory.
Yohn hit 3-of-6 three-point attempts and finished with 16 points and a career-high six steals in just 18 minutes of play. Taylor was 7-for-10 from the field and finished with 17 points and two steals in 22 minutes. Frings knocked down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc en route to a season-best 16 points. Ten of the 11 players which saw action in the game for BU scored.
Freshman Cici Shannon paced the Salukis with 11 points and game-high totals of seven records and six blocked shots. Renee Reed also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points and three steals.
Bradley returns to action Sunday when the Braves host Evansville in a 2:05 p.m. game at Renaissance Coliseum.
