KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Freshman Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) fired a season-best 72 Sunday to help the Bradley men's golf team finish the opening round of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate tied for fifth.
Masrin is tied for fifth at the par-72 Turtle Point Golf Club after his opening round 72 and helped the Braves to their third lowest round (305) of the fall. Sophomore Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) is one shot behind Masrin after 18 holes, following a career-best 73 during Sunday's action to finish the day tied for eighth.
Freshman Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) carded his 10th consecutive round in the 70's with a first-round 78 and is tied for 40th. Sophomore Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) is tied for 73rd in the field after shooting an 82 on the opening day of play, while sophomore Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) completed the individual scoring for BU with an 87 to close the day tied for 97th.
Bradley is tied with Jacksonville State in the team standings at 305, 13 shots back of tournament leader Campbell (292). Kennesaw State is second in the standings after day one at 299 and holds a one-shot edge on tournament-host Charleston Southern (3rd - 300). George Washington finished the day in fourth (301), four shots ahead of BU.
The Braves and Jacksonville State hold a two-shot advantage on seventh-place Presbyterian (307) and will begin Monday's second round four shots ahead of eighth-place Murray State (309) in the 21-team field.
Second round play at the 54-hole Kiawah Island Intercollegiate is scheduled to begin Monday at 6:30 a.m. (CDT). Live scoring is available at golfstat.com
