ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the second time in four weeks, freshman outside hitter Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week announced by the league office Monday afternoon after helping Bradley to home victories against Drake and Creighton.
Keefe averaged a team-best 3.12 kills and 3.75 digs per set, helping Bradley to a sweep of Drake and five-set win against Creighton. She had nine kills and a match-high 13 digs in a three-set victory against Drake on senior night for the Braves.
Keefe turned in her second double-double of the year, tallying a season and match-high 16 kills to go along with 17 digs and two blocks in a five-set win against the Bluejays. The win against Creighton snapped a 12-match losing skid in the all-time series and moved BU into eighth in the standings. The Braves moved within a half game of seventh-place Drake and two games of sixth-place Indiana State for the final spot in next week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
The MVC Freshman of the Week honor is the second this season for Keefe, who joined Creighton's Michelle Sicner and Missouri State's Olivia Brand as the only multiple winners of the award this year.
Over the last seven matches, Keefe is averaging a team-leading 3.21 kills per set and Bradley (11-15 overall, 4-12 MVC) is 4-3 during that span. She has helped the Braves to their first winning home record (7-6) and the most wins since finishing the 2005 campaign 10-5 at home en route to a 16-17 overall record.
Bradley closes out the 2011 regular season with matches at Southern Illinois (Friday) and at Evansville (Saturday), needing to win both matches to have a chance for the sixth and final spot in the MVC Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa (Nov. 24-26).
