SURPRISE, Ariz. - Former Bradley pitcher Rob Scahill (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook H.S.) tossed a perfect seventh inning during the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game Saturday at Surprise Stadium, helping the West Division to an 11-2 victory.
Scahill was selected in the eighth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Colorado Rockies and pitched the entire 2011 season for the Tulsa Drillers, Colorado's Double-A Texas League affiliate. Scahill was 12-11 with a 3.92 earned run average during the 2011 season, starting in 26 of his 27 appearances for the Drillers.
Scahill currently is pitching for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. The 6-foot-2 right-hander is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in seven relief appearances this fall. Since allowing one run in his first outing of the fall, he has not surrendered a run in any of his last six outings and he has struck out eight in his 7.0 innings.
Major League Baseball describes the Arizona Fall League as the "finishing school" for the game's elite prospects. It is a six-team league owned and operated by MLB and comprised of players from all 30 clubs. The Rising Stars Game featured 25 top prospects from both the East and West Divisions in an all-star game.
According to the radar gun on the Rising Stars Game telecast, Scahill recorded his first out on a 96 mph fastball. He sandwiched a strikeout on a slider between two weak fly balls to center field.
