Box Score TEMPE, Ariz. - Bradley held its first lead of the season after freshman Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) notched her first career RBI, but Cal Poly rallied for six runs in the next inning and picked up its first victory of the year with a 7-1 win against the Braves Saturday morning at the Kajikawa Classic.
Junior Julie Sherman (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) had a one-out single and stole second to get things started for Bradley (0-3 overall) in the bottom of the fourth. Lynch-Crumrine drove in the first run of her career with an RBI single up the middle to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Cal Poly (1-2 overall) rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Mustangs had runners at second and third after back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt before Whitley Gerhart drove in a run on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1. Ashley Romano followed with the big hit of the game, belting a three-run homer to put Cal Poly in front 4-1. A wild pitch and a throwing error later in the inning led to two more runs as the Mustangs pushed the lead to 6-1.
Bradley came up empty after a leadoff single by freshman Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) to open the fifth inning and Cal Poly tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh en route to a 7-1 victory.
Senior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) went 2-for-3 at the plate to help lead Bradley offensively.
Sophomore Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) took the loss in the circle for the Braves in her first start of the year. Anna Cahn picked up the victory for Cal Poly, striking out seven and scattering five hits in the complete game victory.
Bradley continues play at the Kajikawa Classic Saturday with a 4 p.m. (CST) game against Pac-10 opponent Oregon State.
