Box Score TROY, Ala. - Sophomore Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) took a no hitter into the fifth inning and senior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI to help power Bradley to a 10-2, five inning victory against Samford Friday night at the Troy Classic. The victory was the first for the Braves this season and Camp picked up her first career win in the circle for BU.
Bradley (1-5 overall) got off to a quick start, plating a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Senior Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee C.C.) got things started, leading off the game with a single to center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Fairbairn came around to score when the Samford shortstop committed on a fielder's choice by freshman Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls).
Camp pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the second inning. A hit batter and back-to-back walks loaded the bases before Camp got Whitney Terry to line out to end the inning.
Fairbairn opened a four-run, third inning for the Braves with a leadoff walk and moved to third after an error on a sacrifice bunt. Joseph drove in Fairbairn with a bunt single and Singler pushed the Bradley lead to 4-0 with a two-run triple to center field. Senior Denise Jilka (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) plated Singler with a groundout to the right side of the infield as the Braves took a 5-0 lead into fourth inning.
Junior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) led off the fourth inning with a double and pinch runner KayCee Miller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-La Vista) advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Miller raced home on a wild pitch to score her first career run and push BU's lead to 6-0. Fairbairn walked, stole second and later scored on error for her third run of the game and freshman Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) drove in another run when she hit into a fielder's choice. Singler capped another four-run inning for Bradley with an RBI single to center to drive in her third run of the contest and push BU's lead to 9-0.
The Braves added another run in the top of the fifth inning after Roth led off the frame with a single to finish off a 3-for-3 day at the plate and came around to score on a triple by freshman Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles).
Camp carried a no-hit bid into the bottom of the fifth, before Samford's (2-5 overall) Allison Reynolds led off the frame with a single to left center. The Bulldogs went on to collect two more runs and broke up the shutout with a pair of runs off a two-run double Lakan Smith.
Camp struck out three and gave up three hits and two runs in her first career victory as she improved to 1-1 on the year.
Kayla Burris took the loss for Samford, giving up nine runs in three and one-third inning to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Bradley continues play at the Troy Classic Saturday with a pair of games against tournament-host Troy (5:30 p.m.) and Central Arkansas (8 p.m.).
