MILWAUKEE, Wis. - For the second consecutive week senior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./ McCluer North) set a Bradley track and field indoor record, breaking the school mark in the 800 meters by better than two seconds to highlight competition for the Braves at the Panther Tune-Up Friday night. She was one of 11 Braves to turn in season-best performances Friday.
Goldkamp broke the school record in the mile at last week's Iowa State Classic and followed it up with a school and facility record time of 2:09.61 in the 800 meters to win the event. The previous school record in the 800 meters was 2:11.87 set by Tam Hart in 2003 and the prior facility mark of 2:11.00 was also set in 2003 by Dot McMahon of the UWM Track Club. In addition, Goldkamp's time is tied for the second fastest time in the 800 meters in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.
The 800 meters also included a season-best time of 2:29.84 by junior Sarah Hallstein (Minier, Ill./Olympia) and season-best effort of 2:34.79 by junior Rachel Garrett (Peoria, Ill./Limestone). Sophomore Chelsea Griffin (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) clocked a season-best of 2:38.98, while senior Lynsi Hermann (Bartonville, Ill../Limestone) finished in a time of 2:47.86 in her first 800 meters of the season.
Freshman Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) finished second in the mile with a season-best time of 5:08.62 and fellow freshman Cassie Lohmeier (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) followed in third place with a season-best effort of 5:10.05 to beat her previous season best by most than 10 seconds.
Senior Lauren Fog (Harvard, Ill./Harvard) shaved 15 seconds off her season-best mile time with a 5:10.15 to finish third, while freshman Emily Wolbers (Moline, Ill./Moline) ran a 5:23.70 in her first mile of the season. Sophomore Emily Gustafson (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) also turned in a season-best of 5:32.51 in the mile. The 200 meters saw senior Jaclyn Gonzales (Fullerton, Calif./Union) clock a season-best time of 32.09.
In the field events, junior Lyndey Cleghorn (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) turned in the best performance by a Brave since 1988, clearing 1.60 meters to win the high jump. Junior Kourtnie Janson (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge) also cleared a season-best 1.55 meters in the high jump.
Bradley returns to action next weekend (Feb. 26 & 27) at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
