CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) shot a season-low, one-over par 73 to highlight the final day of play for the Bradley men's golf team at the WSU Snowman Getaway Tuesday. Thompson tied for 36th, while the Braves finished 14th in the 54-hole event at the par-72 Whirlwind Golf Club.
Thompson fired his lowest round since April 18, 2010 and moved into eighth place in school history with his 72nd career round in the 70's. He shot a third-round 73 to finish in a tie for 36th at 223 to pace Bradley. Freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) was 10 shots behind Thompson in a tie for 60th at 233 after turning in a final round 81.
Joining Thompson in the 70's during Tuesday's action was freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian), who carded a season-best 74 and tied for 64th at 234. Fellow freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) also turned in a sub-80 round, shooting a 78 to finish in a tie with senior Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) for 74th at 242. Perry shot an 85 during Tuesday's final round.
Missouri ran away with the team title, finishing at 23-under par 841. Idaho was 25 shots back in second place at 866 with UMKC rounding out the top three at 868. Tournament-host Washington State followed in fourth (869) and had a two-shot lead on fifth-place British Columbia (871).
Northern Illinois and Portland tied for sixth in the team standings at 882 with St. John's trailing one shot behind in eighth at 883. Utah State finished ninth at 894 and Washington State's second team was 10th at 897. Northern Colorado shot 902 to finish 11th and edge 12th place Gonzaga (903) by one shot. SIU Edwardsville was five back in 13th at 908 with Bradley following in 14th (924). Seattle rounded out the field in 15th at 926.
The Braves return to action March 14 & 15 at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
