Box Score FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Alison Kresl (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) drove in the go-ahead run and freshman Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to help Bradley rally from behind for a 4-2 victory against Idaho State Saturday afternoon at the Bayer CropScience Classic.
Junior pitcher Lindsay Hufeld (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) gave up just four hits in the complete game effort, but Bradley trailed 2-1 after the fourth inning when Kresl helped highlight a three-run fifth for the Braves with an RBI double to help power BU to the victory.
Joseph got things started for Bradley (6-16 overall) with a single to lead off the top of the third and came around to score on a one-out triple off the bat of senior Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee C.C.) to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Idaho State (5-14 overall) pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Courtney Hancock drew a one-out walk and Amanda Fitzsimmons followed with a two-run homer to center field to put the Bengals in front.
Bradley answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to go back in front after Joseph led off the frame with her second single of the day. Junior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) followed with a single of her own and Fairbairn drove in her second run of the contest when Joseph scored on a Fairbairn sacrifice fly.
Kresl plated Roth with the go-ahead run with a double to left center and later scored on a double to left by senior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) to give the Braves a 4-2 lead.
Hufeld gave up leadoff hits in both the sixth and seventh innings, but kept Idaho State from scoring as she improved to 2-7 with the complete game victory. She struck out three and walked three, while scattering four hits over seven innings.
Kandis Clesson took the loss for the Bengals, giving up seven hits and four earned runs over four and two-third innings of work. Clesson (5-10) struck out four and walked one in the loss.
Bradley continues play at the Bayer CropScience Classic Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. (CST) game against 10th-ranked California.
