Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Freshman Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and also pitched three scoreless inning to pick up her first career save as she helped Bradley to a 3-1 victory against San Jose State Friday afternoon at the Eller Media Stadium Classic.
Sophomore Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) gave up just one run and scattered five hits over four innings of work as she evened her record at 2-2 with the victory. She got out of jams in each of the first two innings with the Spartans leaving runners at first and third in the first inning and the bases loaded in the second.
Bradley (5-11 overall) scored first, plating two runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Freshman Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, idaho/Post Falls) drew a one-out walk, before Roth scored on a two-out double off the bat of Lynch-Crumrine. Joseph also scored on the play before Lynch-Crumrine was thrown out at third to end the inning.
San Jose State (8-8 overall) scored its only run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Sadie Coenen led off the inning with a triple and Jacqueline Zepeda drove her in from third with a two-out single to right to cut Bradley's lead in half at 2-1.
The Braves added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning after junior Alison Kresl (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) led off the inning with a walk. Kresl moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and stole third, before junior Julie Sherman (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) had an RBI single to center to put Bradley in front 3-1.
Lynch-Crumrine took over for Camp in the circle to start the fifth inning and allowed the leadoff runner to reach base in each of her three innings of work. The Spartans did not advance a runner past second base against Lynch-Crumrine, however, and Bradley handed San Jose State its fourth straight loss with a 3-1 victory.
Jennifer Ames took the loss for the Spartans, dropping to 3-4 on the year. She struck out two and walked three in four and two-third innings of work.
Senior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) extended her hit streak to nine games with a 1-for-3 effort at the plate and was one of six Braves with a hit.
Bradley continues play at the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., with games against San Diego (11 a.m. CST) and tournament-host UNLV (1:15 p.m. CST).
