KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee (6-1) took advantage of a pair of Bradley errors in the fourth inning for a 4-run outburst that allowed the Volunteers to pull ahead for a 7-3 victory against the visiting Braves (4-4) Friday night in the first day of the Tennessee Classic at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Bradley left-hander Joe Bircher (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season by allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits in his 6.0 innings of work. Center fielder Andrew Tolles was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in to pace the Volunteers offense and he provided the go-ahead hit with a 2-run single in the fourth.
Bradley third baseman Rob Elliott pulled the Braves into a 1-1 tie with a third-inning sacrifice fly and freshman catcher Austin Jarvis' 2-run single in the top of the fourth staked Bradley to a short-lived, 3-1 lead.
Left fielder Mike Tauchman (2-for-3) and shortstop Jason Leblebijian (2-for-4) both had two hits for the Braves and Bradley outhit the Volunteers, 10-9.
The Braves are scheduled to resume play in the Tennessee Classic with an early start Saturday against Morehead State. With rain expected in eastern Tennessee Saturday afternoon, the start time for Saturday's game has been moved up two hours to 9 a.m. (CST).
