Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Troy's Randi Ashworth hit a three-run homer to highlight an eight-run second inning and help power the Trojans to a 9-1 victory against Bradley Sunday afternoon to conclude play at the Eller Media Stadium Classic.
A Bradley error in the bottom of the first inning led to an unearned Troy run, but the Braves tied things up at 1-1 with a single run in the top of the second. Bradley (5-14 overall) had runners and first and second when freshman Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) extended her hit streak to five consecutive games with an RBI single up the middle to plate junior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg).
Troy (13-6 overall) took control of the game with eight two-out runs in the bottom half of the second. The Trojans loaded the bases with a single, walk and hit by pitch for Nikki Hollett who hit a two-run single to left field. Hayden Gann drove in another run with a single to left to give Troy a 4-1 lead and two more runs scored when Michelle Hewett reached on an error.
A walk to Sarah Shields put runners at first and second for Ashworth who lifted a homer to center field to push the Trojan advantage to 9-1.
Troy's Haley Hutchins gave up two-out singles in both the third and fourth innings, but Bradley came up empty in both frames. The Braves had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the fifth, but Hutchins got out of the jam as the Trojans closed out the 9-1 win.
Lynch-Crumrine went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the game, but suffered the loss for Bradley in the circle to fall to 1-4 on the season. Senior Denise Jilka (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) went 2-for-3 at the plate to push her hit streak to four games and senior Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee C.C.) extend her hitting streak to five games with a 1-for-3 day at the plate. Hutchins earned the win for Troy, striking out three and walking none as she improved to 5-2.
Bradley returns to action Friday opening play at the Bayer Cropscience Classic in Fresno, Calif., with an 11 a.m. (CST) game against Troy.
