PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley travels to the state of California for the first time since the 2001 season, taking part in the Bayer CropScience Classic in Fresno, Calif., Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
After wrapping up play at last weekend's Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., against Troy, Bradley (5-14 overall) faces the Trojans (15-6 overall) again to open this weekend's tournament. Friday's 11 a.m. (CST) game against Troy is the third meeting between the two teams this season.
The Braves wrap up the first day against tournament-host and former national champion Fresno State (8-4 overall) at 6:30 p.m. (CST). Friday's game will mark the first-ever meeting with the Bulldogs and third game this season against a WAC opponent.
Bradley takes on Idaho State (4-9 overall) Saturday at 1 p.m. (CST) in the first of two games against the Bengals during tournament play. Saturday's action also includes the second game of the year against a nationally ranked opponent, when the Braves square off with 10th-ranked California (12-2 overall) at 3 p.m. (CST). Bradley fell to Oregon State 8-6 earlier this season in the only other game on the slate against a Pac-10 school.
The Braves wrap up tournament play Sunday with an 11 a.m. (CST) tilt against Idaho State. Following the Bayer CropScience Classic, Bradley will face Fresno State in a single game Tuesday at 8 p.m. (CST) before opening Missouri Valley Conference play next weekend with a three-game series at I-74 rival Illinois State. The Braves have four non-conference games remaining on the schedule following Tuesday's contest against the Bulldogs.
Senior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) hit a pair of home runs last weekend to push her career total to seven and carries a career-best 10-game hit streak into Friday's game against Troy. Singler's 10-game hit streak is the longest by a BU player since Trish Kowalewski hit safely in 11 consecutive games in 2005. During her hit streak, Singler is hitting .394 with three doubles, two homers, six runs and eight RBI.
Fellow senior Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee C.C.) currently owns a five-game hit streak and is the only player on the roster with two hit streaks of five or more games this season. She helped highlight play for BU at last week's Eller Media Stadium Classic, hitting .500 during the weekend. Fairbairn entered Saturday's game against San Diego with four extra-base hits on the season, before opening the game with her first career home run and adding a pair of doubles against the Toreros.
Freshman Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) led Bradley offensively last weekend with a .571 average (8-for-14) and also picked up her first career save in the Braves' 3-1 victory against San Jose State last Friday.
