PEORIA, Ill. -- First-year Bradley volleyball head coach Jenny Maurer has her first recruiting commitment as head coach of the Braves, announcing 6-1 setter/right side hitter Madison Kamp (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Christian) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Bradley recently.
A four-year starter for the Knights, she started her high school career at outside hitter before making the move to setter her final two seasons and helped lead Chicago Christian to a Class 2A state championship last fall. Kamp was a first-team all-state selection by the Champaign News-Gazette in 2010 and was a prepvolleyball.com All-American.
Last summer, she helped the U.S. Women's Junior National Team to a second-place finish at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and was a finalist for the 2010 Andi Collins Award, given annually to the top senior high school setter in the country.
"We are extremely excited to add Madison to our team this fall," Maurer said. "She flew under the radar early in her high school career, before having a breakout junior season and catching the attention of USA Volleyball. She has raised the level of her play greatly, thanks in part to her international experience, and we are looking forward to her continuing to improve over the coming years."
Chicago Christian posted a 123-32 (.794) record in Kamp's four varsity seasons, including three seasons with 30 or more victories. The Knights advanced to the IHSA Class 2A Championship in 2009, finishing second, and placed fourth in the IHSA Tournament in 2007. A two-time all-conference performer, Kamp was a special mention all-state honoree as a junior and the two-time team captain was a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Player of the Week selection for the state of Illinois.
"Her soft hands and quick feet bode well as the court quarterback, both offensively and defensively, as do her exceptional leadership skills," Maurer continued. "Madison carries herself with confident composure, yet is a feisty competitor who despises losing. We believe she possesses the talent and maturity to make an immediate impact, but we also know that she has only begun to tap into her potential."
Kamp joins 5-10 outside hitter Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) in Bradley's recruiting class. The South Suburban Conference Player of the Year, Keefe signed with the Braves during the fall signing period. The duo will join a roster which features 11 returning letterwinners, including five starters from last year's team.
