PEORIA, Ill. -- Jim Shadid, who still owns the Bradley Baseball single-season and career records for stolen bases, became the third former Bradley student-athlete to be sworn in as a federal judge Wednesday during a ceremony at the Federal District Courthouse in downtown Peoria.
Shadid played baseball for the Braves from 1976-79, setting the single-season school record with 30 stolen bases in 1977. His 85 career steals remains 20 more than second-best total in program history. The speedy outfielder was selected Bradley's Most Valuable Player in both 1977 and 1978 and he led the Braves with a .330 batting average during his junior season in 1978.
Shadid follows former Bradley men's basketball player Joe Billy McDade to the federal bench in the Central Illinois District. McDade, who played at Bradley from 1957-59, has served the Central Illinois District since 1991. In addition, former Bradley track and field athlete Howard McKibben was appointed a U.S. District Court judge in Nevada in 1984.
