ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Bradley women's tennis team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to regular-season conference champion Wichita State in the first round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Friday morning at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Wichita State (14-10 overall) posted an 8-1 win at #1 doubles and picked up an 8-0 victory at #2 doubles to claim the doubles point and jump out to an early lead.
At #1 doubles, the Shocker duo of Veronika Blaskova and Montse Blasco Fernandez topped the Bradley pair of Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./ Glenbard West) and Adele Henke (Edina, Minn./Edina) 8-1. The Shockers tandem of Carla Venticinque and Delia Damaschin locked up the doubles point with an 8-0 win over BU's Sarah Rodefeld (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Meredith McDonagh (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) at #2 doubles.
Blasco Fernandez won in straight sets at #5 singles 6-0, 6-0 against freshman Ashley Roth (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) and Blanskova was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Rodefeld at #2 singles to give Wichita State a 3-0 lead. The Shockers closed out the match with a win at #6 singles as Valerie Brockman's 6-0, 6-0 win against sophomore Brigitte Graf (Double Oak, Texas/Faustina Academy) sealed the win for Wichita State.
Bradley finished the season with a 3-20 overall record. Wichita State advances to Saturday's semifinals where the Shockers will face #5 seed Southern Illinois.
