Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley served up eight aces and limited Nebraska-Omaha to a .138 attack percentage as the Braves improved to 2-0 on the season with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-23 victory against the Mavericks Saturday morning at Renaissance to open the second day of play at the CEFCU Classic.
Junior Madelyn Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) matched a career-high with three aces and sophomore Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) tallied a match-high 11 kills to help pace the Braves, who opened the season with a 2-0 record for the third consecutive year.
Five different BU players recorded an ace in the contest and BU hit .275 as a team en route to its fourth consecutive home victory. Senior Genevieve Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) started at libero and tallied a match-best 14 digs to help Bradley to a 46-38 dig advantage.
The Braves came out hot, hitting .417 in the first set and cruised to a 25-13 win. Senior Annie Cave (Easton, Ill./Illini Central) sparked a 10-1 BU run to close the set with a kill and Ervin helped highlight the spurt with a kill and back-to-back aces.
Bradley took control of the second set midway through the frame. UNO (0-3 overall) pulled within a point at 16-15 on a BU error when a Tupuritis kill started a 5-0 Braves run. Ervin followed with a kill of her own and three straight UNO attack errors pushed the Bradley advantage to 21-15. The Braves went on to take the second set 25-20.
BU built an early seven point lead (14-7) in the third set before UNO rallied to pull even at 17-17. The Braves led 24-21 when the Mavericks scored back-to-back points to get within one point (24-23). Freshman Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) put the finishing touches on the win with her second kill of the match to close out a 25-23 victory.
Tupuritis had 11 kills and seven digs to help pace the Braves, while Ervin had six kills in addition to her three aces. Freshman Madison Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) collected a match-high 29 assists and also had three kills, six digs and an ace.
Brittany Hanssen led UNO with seven kills and two blocks, with Natalie Edke and Ali Janson each contributing six kills to the Mavericks offensive efforts.
The CEFCU Classic concludes this afternoon with a 4 p.m. match between Bradley and Illinois-Chicago at Renaissance Coliseum.
