Bradley senior-to-be Joe Bircher (Omaha, Neb./Roncalli Catholic H.S.) continues to draw rave reviews for his performance in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League this summer.
The 6-foot-4 left-handed pitcher was recognized as one of the league's "Top Performers" by Perfect Game writer Kendall Rogers and was named to the 10-player All-Cape Team by Cape League Tourist blog, both last week.
Bircher helped the Falmouth Commodores reach the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs by leading the league in strikeouts during the regular season, while finishing second in earned run average. Displaying remarkable control throughout the summer, Bircher fanned 48 hitters in 43.2 innings over his eight starts, while walking just nine batters. Surrendering just 35 hits in 43.2 innings, Bircher went 2-2 with a 1.44 ERA and did not allow an earned run in five of his eight starts.
Bircher is expected to take the mound tonight when the Commodores visit Hyannis in the deciding game of their best-of-three series to open the CCBL West Division Playoffs.
