Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- Bradley used a late 10-0 run to cut a 13-point Creighton lead to just three points in the final minute of play and trailed by two with 5.4 seconds remaining, but CU's Carli Tritz made a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to close out a 72-68 win for the Bluejays Saturday at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Trailing 66-53 with 3:55 to play, Bradley (11-10 overall, 2-7 MVC) mounted a late comeback attempt. Junior Brooke Bisping (Morton, Ill./Morton) scored two of her season-high eight points to open BU's late run and sophomore Catie O'Leary (Janesville, Wis./Parker/Wisconsin) followed with a layup.
Sophomore Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) hit a floater in the lane and made a layup after a Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) steal to cut Creighton's (11-9 overall, 5-4 MVC) lead to five (66-61) with 1:23 to play.
An O'Leary jumper in the lane with 46 seconds left pulled BU within three (66-63) with 45 seconds, but the Bluejays made 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Braves.
Creighton had pushed the lead back to six points (69-63) when O'Leary hit a three and Bradley trailed 70-68 with 5.4 seconds remaining after a pair of Lauren Niemiera (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) free throws. Tritz, who scored 19 of her game and career-high 25 points in the second half, made a pair of free throws with 4.2 seconds to seal the 72-68 win for Creighton.
Bradley shot 51.5 percent in the second half, after shooting just 32.1 percent in the opening period. The Braves went eight minutes without a field in the opening 20 minutes, before Yohn ended an 0-for-9 drought with a three-pointer from the wing and later scored five points during a 9-0 BU run which trimmed the Creighton lead to one point (24-23) with just over four minutes to play in the first half. The Bluejays scored the final four points of the first half and took a 30-25 lead into the break.
Yohn led the Braves with 17 points to pace three BU players in double figures. She hit 3-of-6 three-point attempts to tie Michelle Nason for second in career three-point field goals (158) at Bradley. O'Leary scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half and matched a season-high with six assists, while Budd was also in double figures with 10 points. Senior Leah Kassing (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) had a streak of 10 consecutive games scoring in double figures snapped, finishing with eight points in 20 minutes.
Tritz was 10-of-16 from the field and scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Bluejays. DaNae Moore had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Sarah Nelsonadded 13 points.
Bradley returns to action Thursday, welcoming Evansville for a 7 p.m. game at Renaissance Coliseum.
