Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame announcer Dave Snell participated in his 1000th Bradley Basketball radio broadcast on 1470 WMBD, all in succession, Saturday night when the Braves hosted #24 Creighton at Carver Arena.  Since making his debut as the Voice of the Braves Nov. 30, 1979 in Bradley's game against #2 Kentucky at the Great Alaska Shootout, Dave has provided the radio call for many of Bradley Basketball's memorable moments:

  • The 1982 NIT championship against Purdue at Madison Square Garden
  • Two Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championships
  • Five MVC regular-season titles
  • What remains the last undefeated regular-season championship (16-0) in Valley history and the best single-season record (32-3) in Bradley Basketball history
  • The longest game in NCAA men's basketball history (seven overtimes against Cincinnati Dec. 21, 1981)
  • The final 48 men's basketball games in the history of Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse
  • The first 432 games in the history of Carver Arena
  • The first men's basketball game at Renaissance Coliseum
  • The greatest play in the first 20 years of Arch Madness history (Deon Jackson's 1996 shot to beat Missouri State in the MVC Tournament semifinals)
  • The longest, game-winning shot in college basketball postseason history (Chris Roberts' 75-footer at the buzzer to beat Oakland in the 2009 CIT)
  • He is the only broadcaster to call the championship game of three different college basketball postseason tournaments
  • The largest home crowd in Bradley Basketball history (11,597 on Dec. 4, 2007 versus #9 Michigan State)
  • All of Hersey Hawkins' MVC and Bradley career record 3,008 points, including the school and MVC record 63-point night Feb. 22, 1988 at Detroit.

During Saturday night's pregame ceremony honoring Dave, Bradley University announced the establishment of the Dave Snell Endowed Scholarship.  If you would like to contribute to the endowment, please contact the Bradley University Office of Advancement at 309-677-3159.

Dave Snell's First 1,000 Games:  Memories and Messages

"Dave, on behalf of the entire Bradley Athletics extended family, our sincerest 'Thank You' for sharing your talents with all of us.  1,000 games is a truly remarkable achievement and here's hoping for 1,000 more."
Bobby Parker | Peoria, IL

Hey Dave- great knowing you for these many years. Congratulations on your 1000th game. Looking forward to your 2000th!
Gene Sidler | East Peoria, IL

Dave,
Congratulations, my friend. It is an honor to be your friend and colleague for all these years.
Greg Batton | Pekin, IL

The fact that the voice on my radio during Bradley games is the same today as it was when I heard my first Bradley game in 1986 is a huge deal to me. No matter what's going on in my life, I always look forward to that first Bradley broadcast every year. And Dave's voice and style makes everything alright again. He is one of a kind...and the perfect guy to tell me what is happening in the Bradley game. I wouldn't ever want it any other way. Congrats Dave!
Jeremy | Indianapolis, IN

Dave, my favorite moment was meeting you when Illinois State played at Robertson early in 1982. It's hard to believe that was 30 years (and so many games) ago. You were a very gracious host to a rookie play-by-play guy that day. I have very much enjoyed the evolution of our friendship.

I feel fortunate to have been able to do DI college play-by-play for so long. I know you feel the same way. I love being part of the fraternity of play-by-play announcers in the Valley, but I certainly feel the closest kinship with you. Congrats on your consistently great work over so long a period of time. I look forward to seeing you next month.
Dick Luedke

Dave-
Congrats on reaching 1,000 games, and hope to see you on many more in the future!
Rob Anderson | Omaha, Neb.

Dear Dave,
Congratulations on your 1,000th game broadcast. I consider it a real privaledge to have been able to get to know you during my time as a team manager during the Albeck years. Boy we saw it all from 87-91 didn't we? Of all the memories of those years, the bus rides with you and Coach Stowell are right at the top. I think I was the only one "qualified" to discuss Armington with Coach! My brother Darren and I's families come to all the games and listen to you always. There aren't many in the Athletic dept. that I know anymore but I can always count on you to tell us about the present, but remind us of the past.

Thanks so much Dave!
Doug Davis and The Davis Family | Rural McLean

Thank you for your dedication and tireless hard work at serving the BU Basketball community for so many games and years!

I will always cherish the days we worked together from 1984-1987 when I worked in the SID office with Joe D.

When we did the Kaboom Klub in the miraculous 1985-86 season, it was one of the BEST times of my life. Who can forget our 32-3 season with Hawk, Jimmy, Big Mike and gang!! We worked incredibly well together to raise money for St. Jude and the B Club. I was SO thankful for the KABOOM KOUNTER you utilized to track our team's success and money being raised.

You have always been stellar in your description of the play by play as well as the attention you have given ALL of the players individually.

As long as the Good Lord allows, we look forward to many more years of listening to your wonderful play by play of BU Basketball. Along with you, GO BU!!
Tom Sargeant | Danville, IL

From Joe Stowell to Dick Versace to Stan Albeck to Jim Molinari to Jim Les to Geno Ford. From Roger Phegley to Mitchell Anderson to Voise Winters to Hersey Hawkins to Anthony Parker to Phillip Gilbert to Daniel Ruffin to Taylor Brown. From Sweet 16s to NITs to CBIs to MVC Tourneys. From winning seasons to losing seasons. From first place to last place, YOU have been the constant. And you've been a good man in good times and, more importantly, bad times. Something for all of us to learn. Bradley, its fans, the MVC and you are all lucky. I am proud to have known you for all 1000 games and am proud to call you a friend. There is no doubt you are the best! Congratulations, David!
Mike Reis | SIU Radio

Dave, congratulations on your 1,000th game at Bradley. Keep up the great work.
Colin McDonough | Cedar Falls, IA

Dave, congratulations on the milestone! I am living in Cincinnati, and have missed hearing your expert play-by-play each season. My favorite memory, and maybe one of yours too: Bradley vs. UC-Irvine early in the 1987-1988 season. During your pre-game, you made it clear that it would be a high scoring affair, and the pace was frenetic throughout. It was sheer pleasure hearing you report the non-stop action (seemingly) effortlessly. A thing of pure beauty to hear. If I remember correctly, Hawk had the (at the time) record 50 points, and I think he sat out about 5-7 minutes mid-way through the first half! Both teams had well over 100 points, I believe.
Scott Unes | Cincinnati, OH

Congratulations, Dave! Bradley basketball just wouldn't be the same without you! Here's to 1,000 more....
Lori Fan | Peoria, IL

Dave,

Congratulations on your 1,000th broadcast of Bradley basketball. I grew up listening to Chick Hearn and Mort Cantor. I always wondered who would follow them and hopefully be almost as good calling a game. You came along and the bar was never lowered. In fact, I tell many of my friends that Bradley has the best basketball broadcaster in college basketball. Now, I haven't herad them all, but that's my view and I'm sticking to it. Dave, as an out-of-towner, you have been my eyes and ears through the years of Bradley basketball. Thankfullly today's technology allows us 'non-locals' to follow Bradley basketball whether by internet radio or video streaming. What is constant is that you're there calling the game. Thank you for that and for staying loyal to our University. I'm so proud of you and what you bring to Bradley University. Dave, I wish you continued success and much happiness.

Go get SIU tomorrow tonight!

All the best,
George Shaheen | Atherton, CA via Elmwood, IL

Dave,

We've shared some memorable and not-so-memorable moments during our journey together of covering Bradley basketball. From Kwame Brown's free throw at Manhattan to Dick Lien's foibles to Coach Stowell's antics to the gunfire in NYC to AP's game-winner at SIU knocking you off the air to the fight at Villanova to Deon's miracle at St. Louis to your doctor in Cedar Falls to the UNO games on the back of the bus to Mo's "We're bad" to the Sweet 16 run to blackjack at Harrah's to racquetball rivalries to the Asian waiter in Honolulu to the first-ever reservation made at Spaghetti Works to the ice cream cone in Hawaii.

It's been a blast and I've enjoyed every minute (except maybe the gunfire and the blackjack losses). Congratulations on a grand accomplishment.
Dave Reynolds | Peoria, IL

Congratulations Dave on such a momentous milestone. Along with Congratulations I also want to thank you for staying in Peoria and blessing our community with your fantastic abilities to call the games! I still vividly remember you doing the Pekin High School games with my father before you became the icon you are today. You have not only endeared yourself to this community but to my family as well!!
Scott Saurs | Peoria, IL

Thanks Dave you are awesome!

Favorite moment was AP's game winner vs SIU and the team crashed into you guys and delayed the post game broadcast lol KABOOM! Looks good is good!
Marcus Whitman | Peoria, IL

Congratulations Dave! What a tremendous accomplishment. As one of your many fans, I thank you for the pride you bring to Bradley University! Go Braves, Go Dave!
Vicki Sparks | Chicago, IL

Dave,

I'm almost 35 years old now, and have been a diehard fan of the program as long as I have memory. This year it has been hard for me because of the way things ended with Jim. As I sat and listened to the GW game this year in my truck I realized that you are the one aspect of the Bradley basketball program that has remained constant all these years.

This year, you brought me back into the fold. Listening to you call the game I cannot help but get excited and my heart starts thumping. We love the way you call the games, and the passion you still have for this team. Thanks,
Dan Wegner | Eureka, IL

Dave....just wanted to drop you a note and say "CONGRATS" on your 1,000th broadcast as THE VOICE of the Bradley Braves! You are truly one of the greats in this business! I have always admired your work and also your involvement in helping and teaching other young broadcasters the trade! Keep up the great work and here is to another 1,000 broadcasts!!

Sincerely,
Gary Rima | UNI Panthers Radio Network

Dave:
It's been great to know you all of these years. We've shared passion for our alma mater and the St.Louis Cardinals, with the commensurate ups and downs, each team provides. You've accomplished alot; made your mark on this University, which will live in posterity. You've brought the "game" into the living rooms for those unable to attend in person. I'm privileged to know you, and to work with you in Robertson Field House and Carver Arena. As one of your favorite broadcast role models (Jack Buck) would say -- "Dave Snell, That's A Winner!" Congratulations on your 1,000th. . .best wishes for another thousand as well.

Sincerely,
P A Paul
Paul Herzog | Germantown Hills, IL

First of all not just a great announcer but a better person. A great ambassador for Bradley University and for Peoria as well for that matter. I am proud to say I know him. A great friend of mine, Sir James Watson and myself drove down to the Indiana State Game Saturday and he talked at great length about what a great man Dave Snell is and then he informed me he would not be at our road game this Saturday night at Rock Island because he could NOT miss Dave's 1,000 broadcast. Thanks for what you do for Bradley Dave, but more importantly thanks for being Dave Snell.
Coach David Williams | Peoria, IL

Dave-

Having moved out East after graduating BU in 2001, it's made it a bit of a challenge to keep up with BU Basketball. What's made it a lot easier is that every time I tune in on the internet, I know I'm going to get a great call of the game (win or lose) by one of the best in the business.

Here's to many, many, many more KABOOMS! and Bradley Wins!
Darren Rusakiewicz | Odenton, MD

Kaboom! Congratulations Dave! Wishing you the best for many many more games to come! Love ya.
Christie Cook | Peoria, IL

Congratulations on this significant accomplishment! As a huge college basketball fan, I have great admiration for the radio voices who have become an integral part of a particular program and ultimately its college or university. During my time in central Illinois, I looked forward to any event you would serve as its master of ceremonies, the voice impersonations (especially Coach Stowell and Coach Molinari) and catching any or all of a game on WMBD Radio knowing you had done your homework in preparing for the broadcast. Best wishes for many future successes!
Greg Ayers | Pekin, IL (originally) - Portage, MI (currently)

Way to go Dave. Keep up the great work!!
Tom | Niles, IL

Dave,
This is an extremely impressive accomplishment for anyone and I for one am so proud of you and happy to see you reach this amazing milestone. You are not only a successful and talented broadcaster and a top-notch promoter of Bradley athletics, especially basketball, you are also a person of outstanding character. I am so pleased to say I know you and wish you continued success in the rest of your career. You deserve every recognition and accolade given on your behalf. Congratulations, Dave!
Jodi Bouris | Peoria, IL

Keep up the great work Dave!
Gina Dunphy | Peoria, IL

Dave -

Congratulations on 1000 games behind the mic of Bradley Basketball. I remember the first time I met you, doing a public speaking project for my freshman public speaking class. The assignment was to interview someone in the 'field you want to go into', and you were the guy! Wow. I feel honored to have worked with you, and now to work in the same field as you. You are a credit to the profession, one of the true good guys in a crazy business.

Dave, congrats on 1000 and here's to 1000 more. You are the man!

Go Braves!
Andy Masur | Class of 1989

Congratulations on 1000!

As a Sport Comm major, I look forward to taking your broadcasting class in the future! I can only imagine how much useful information I can take out of it! I also look forward to picking your brain one on one to develop more of an understanding of the sporting world and to better myself as a broadcaster.

As a fan, you're such a joy to listen to! You have so much knowledge and have experienced so much Bradley history! You are the perfect example of what it means to be a Brave!

Here's to more games and more championships!
Lee Pikelny | Chicago, IL

Dave,

I was honored to hand you a congratulatory mic at 900 and I'm proud to see you get to 1,000! I'll continue to listen to your fantastic calls no matter where this life may lead me. I've been around a lot of college hoops and you're the best I've ever heard at bringing it to life across the sound waves. Keep it up and thanks for letting me share a few years.
John Searby | Charlotte, NC

Dave, Very proud of you my friend and co worker for 25 years! Actually more if you include the infamous....Tommy Hawk! LOL GREAT JOB! YOU are the best!

You are a pro, especially with all the sales elements we throw at you during the broadcasts! LOL, like the referees are sponsored by Stephens Fiddes and McGill attorneys to all the LIVE reads!

A big Thank you for everything through the years!
BR

Dave-

I've shared this story before - you are the reason I fell in love with radio. Growing up I would listen to Bradley games and coaches show in my parents' kitchen. I loved being able to mute the tv and listen to you call the game. Your love for the game and passion for Bradley was infectious.

Years later having the opportunity to work with you was a dream come true.

Thank you for being a great role model, for always answering my questions and eventually being a great friend.

Congratulations on the first 1,000 games and here is to many more.

All my best -
Meghan Grenber | Indianapolis, IN

Dave....

Congratulations to the ultimate pro. In my many years in this market, I have never met anyone so dedicated to preparation and excellence. I was proud to call you "co-worker" for many years and friend for many more. Those of us who know this business know how lucky Bradley and the greater Peoria area are to have you behind the mic. Way to go Dave!

Blessings,
Scott Wheeler | Washington, IL

Congrats! You are an awesome person and broadcaster! Saturday will be special! Looking forward to Illini and Bradley games in the same day!
Amy Klockenga | Pekin, IL

Dave, You have always been a person to set the standard we in the biz should all live up to the level of...I remember doing a Peoria Heights vs. Knoxville football playoff football game at the Heights way back in the early 80's I believe, and you were hanging out in the booth wearing a Cardinal jacket, standing behind me...and I was scared to death doing the PBP, because you were and still are the STANDARD of professionalism. Congrats!!
Jonny King | Peoria, IL

Congrats, Dave, on your impressive milestone. I believe we had an English class together at ICC, back in the 1970s. That's my claim to fame. ;)
Jeff E. | Woodbridge, VA

I appreciate your loyalty to the hoops program Dave - WHAT an accomplishment!!!
I've only been listening since around 2000, but enjoy how you put yourself into each possession. I feel your enthusiasm and your discouragement in certain situations.
Keep on for another 100, 200, heck - why not 1,000 more!!!!
Scott | Chicago, IL

Congratulations, Dave. You have become an icon to Bradley basketball. I regret I can't listen to the games down here in Texas, but glad I had the opportunity to both watch them and listen when I lived in Peoria 30 years ago. Keep up the great work and now get started on the next 1000!
Chuck Wharton '63 | Austin, TX

Dave, Congrats on your 1000th broadcast. We are so lucky to have you as the voice of the Braves. When I think of Bradley Basketball, I think of the many road games I listened to you describe a Brave win. You and Coach Stowell made us feel we were at the venue watching the game. Sorry, Judy and I will miss the game, as we are down here in Dewey's town, but bring the Braves a victory.
John Duncan | Bartonville, IL

Way to go Dave. Mort would be very happy to see you reach this milestone.
Mike McLinden | Peoria, IL - Ocala, FL

On behalf of the Peoria Civic Center and Carver Arena, CONGRATULATIONS on your 1,000th game as the Voice of the Braves!! We are honored to have you as part of the Braves Tradition at Carver. I appreciate your friendliness and smiles while working the games! All the best to you Dave!
Beth Anderson, Event Manager | Peoria, IL

Les to Hawkins vs. Drake. One second left length of the court and Hawkins catches and makes the shot without touching the ground. I was a child watching on TV with my dad but listening to Snell on the radio at the same time. That is one of the greatest shots and calls in college history that most of the country never saw. Snell's call of that entire season was amazing.
Eric Scroggs | Mackinaw, IL

Dave, Congratulations on reaching such a career milestone event! I've enjoyed your sportscasting and play-by-play skills from the very first days, and I'll continue to be a fan. A classic moment in my Dave Snell memories is from Robertson Field House after the Braves beat the Green Tide of Tulane to advance to the NIT Finals in NYC. You did a great "New York, New York" Sinatra impression right near my wife and me in the field house that set the tone for my most memorable Braves season and favorite Braves team! Thanks for the memories. God bless you.
Bob Wegner | Germantown Hills, IL

Congratulations, Dave. I was Sports Editor of the Scout in '81 and Dave graciously agreed to an interview. I don't remember the exact quote now, but his "can do" personality was summed in my mind by his observation that if Miss America walked by he'd say hello, she may ignore him, but at least he tried. I went down to press row some 25 years later when the Braves were at Pepperdine and he said hi and remembered the interview. Great guy, great voice, great representative of Bradley.
Phil | Valencia, CA

Congratulations to the best announcer on the planet! I've told you many times, we are so grateful to have such a true professional like you calling our Bradley games. You could have gone to the Pro's at anytime but have chosen to remain here with us. I am proud to call you a friend and wish you all the best with your next 1000 games!
Mike McClellan | Washington, IL

I love listening to Dave Snell and so did my dad, George Armstrong. Dad would always comment that Dave was one of the most talented broadcasters in the country. He knew that Dave could have gotten a job in any or many major markets but his devotion to Bradley kept him here. We are so lucky to have him. Congratulations Dave, I know Dad is cheering you on tonight!
Kim Armstrong | Peoria, IL

Dave, Congrats to you on your FIRST 1,000 Bradley games! I entered BU in '79 when you started broadcasting the Braves. I loved listening to you paint the picture. Your excellence in broadcasting certainly impacted me as i entered the world of broadcast journalism. You are a professional, tremedous representative of Bradley, and a true gentleman. All the best.
Dan Pearson BU '83 Philippians 4:13 | Geneseo, IL

Congratulations! A thousand games on the same basketball program is impressive. Ever consider how many words you've used to do that?
Bill Shuler | Quincy, IL

Congratulations Dave! Having broadcast a "few" games myself, I know what it takes to be prepared for each and every broadcast. You can tell who does his homework and who doesn't. Your homework comes thru on every one of your broadcasts that I have heard. Your professionalism is perhaps your best asset. It comes through the radio with each broadcast as well. Keep up the good work and congratulations on a wonderful milestone.
Jeff Dorsey | Quincy, IL

The Bradley-Illinois State rivalry remains one of the best in college basketball. What this old Redbird enjoys telling Redbird fans is that the powerful rivalry on the surface is fueled by great respect among the people involved behind the scenes from Bradley and Illinois State. Dave Snell is one of the people who has always demonstrated what the rivalry is truly about, and what it should be about. He has never fallen prey to the kind of bitter partisanship which can cheapen a rivalry. But that should be no surprise to anyone else who has known Dave Snell over the years ... he has always treated people with respect, he has always conducted himself as a professional, he has always encouraged others to behave the same way. While 1,000 games with the same team is quite an achievement, the true measure of Dave Snell is that he judges himself not by what he has, but by what he gives. Now THAT is a Hall of Famer!
Tom Lamonica | Normal, IL

Dave, Congrats on 1,000!!! I tell people when they talk about announcers that you are the best kept secret in college basketball radio. You could have gone to other programs, but you stayed loyal to BU. That speaks volumes. I wish you the best on your calls in the future and hope you hit 2,000. Chick Hearn, Bill King, Jack Brickhouse, et al are proud. As a side note, I have applied for one of the lecturer positions in Communication at BU and would love to return. It would be great to be one of your colleagues. All the Best!
Gary Dreibelbis | Vacaville, CA

Dave, Congrats on the first 1000 games! Here's to a bunch more...and hopefully some tournament games in a few years! KABOOM!!!
Ken Klopfenstein | Washington/Peoria, IL

Congratulations on your 1,000th game:  that is a great accomplishment! You are a hall of fame announcer, an but even better person!
Alvin Brooks III | Houston, TX

Congratulations, Dave. One thousand games broadcasting one team puts you in a select group. Best wishes for continued success. ... Now, you up for 1,000 more?
Kirk Wessler | Peoria, IL

Dave - I have been in ballparks, arenas, and stadiums in several dozen cities in this great nation. There is nobody I would rather hear describe a competition or emcee an event than you. Time & score, player changes, ball movement, all covered as a complement to the rhythm of the game. Your enthusiasm and pride for Bradley University athletics is obvious, and it engages your audience in a way that lets us feel the emotions and efforts of the games even when we are not there. I know you have passed up offers from big league organizations over the years. Speaking selfishly and on behalf of your listeners, thank you. However, if you ever have an opportunity to do play by play for your beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and could find a way to mix in some TV/radio work for MVC basketball in the off-season, which would include a stop or two in Peoria each season, then go for it. That might be the only way the BU community could accept not having you as a part of it. Otherwise, we expect at least 500 more games! I feel privileged to listen to your work, and proud to call you a friend. Peace & Good Health to You.
Jeff Doeden | East Peoria, IL

Dave- Congrats on yet another amazing milestone. It's been great to listen to you the last nine years and even better to talk with you at the ballpark, on campus or wherever we run into each other all over town. Thanks for the tips back in 2003 when I got started here and for being an inspiration for all the young broadcasters that come through Central Illinois and Bradley. Enjoy Saturday night and I'll be listening! All the Best
Nathan Baliva | Peoria, IL

Dave.... you have been as much as Braves basketball as the coaches, players and fans have been. From your Kaboom moments to your Deon Jackson call in St. Louis to your Sweet 16 calls in 2006, thank you so much for a great 1,000 games...I still remember the first time I met ya at E Peoria Buffalo Wild Wings, me in my Packers jersey and you in your Jets as we sat and talked football.... you are not just the Braves announcer, you are a Peoria icon! 1979 is where it all started when I was 7 and now as I come up on my 40th.... I can't count the many wonderful memories you have given me and all Braves fans... Thank you & God bless you & your family....as our dear friend Jimmy coined the phrase for all "true" braves fans... Once a Brave, always a Brave!!
Brian Michael | Bartonville, IL

CONGRATULATIONS DAVE...ON YOUR 1,000TH GAME!! Even when watching a Bradley game on TV, we would turn down the sound and turn on the radio so we could hear your play-by-play. Its your 1,000th game, and you are one in a million.
Pat Bachman | Bradford, IL

Congratulations Dave, It's an honor to tell people that you announced our games when we were in high school. Continued success.
Don Davis | Pekin

Dave, I have been one of the fortunate ones to have worked with you as a manger of Bradley Basketball. I listen to the games when I am unable to attend even when they are on TV. I turn down the sound to listen to THE BEST. I just want to take this time to congratulate you on your 1000th broadcast this Sat as I will be in attendance. Best of luck on many more broadcasts and keeping Bradley Basketball exciting. KABOOM
Tim Sack | Peoria, IL

Congratulations Dave!
Dan | Peoria, IL

Dave, Congrats on reaching such a great milestone! 1000 games is quite an accomplishment! Always enjoy listening to you on the road when we can't make the games and love the picture of the game you paint in your own distinct way. Enjoy the celebrations of your 1000th game. You earned it!
Nena Peplow | Morton, IL

Congratulations on 1,000 games Dave. It was a great experience getting to hang out with you at the Sweet 16 in 2006.
Shaun Newell | Peoria, IL

Dave...as a former long time high school sports play-by-play guy in Canton, I've always appreciated and admired your work. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know when I say the key to successful play-by-play is preparation, preparation, and preparation (in that order). You've far exceeded the benchmark when it comes to that! Isn't it interesting, too, as time moves along, it's the relationships formed in the business that become more and more important. We can't, and don't want to, forget the exciting "moments" on the court and on the field, but those on-going relationships are to be cherished! Here's to the next 1,000 games...
Kevin Stephenson | Canton, IL

Hi Dave - It's hard to put into words how we feel about you. A great guy- A superb basketball announcer - A true friend and supporter - Mr. Bradley . We've been through each other's ups and downs over the years and shared many memories. And - hey - We feel that Morton had one helluva basketball announcer pre- Bradley years!! Our best to you and your future. BU is one lucky university!
Stan & Maryann Bugaieski | Morton, IL

Oh, the places we've been and the things we have seen! But, through it all, you have been the one constant of Bradley Basketball. Congratulations on Game #1,000. You have come a long way from Anchorage and you've done it with class. See you post-game!
Joe Dalfonso | Washington, IL

Hi Dave, There is no doubt that you are one of the best at what you do. Thanks for making Bradley basketball come alive on the radio. I grew up near Champaign, so have always been an Illini fan and thus also a Big 10 fan. So, when I moved to Morton in 1980, Bradley had barely been on my radar for sports. I can remember actually rooting for Purdue in the NIT championship game because I didn't want to see a Big 10 team get beat by a "mid-major."  However, I soon began to embrace the Braves as my "hometown" team, and my entire family - my wife and 7 children - all have become huge fans over the years. Your enthusiasm for Bradley has been a big influence in that transformation. We do get to a few home games every year, but many more games are experienced through listening to your call of the game on the radio. One of the highlights for us was the night my youngest son, Stevan Jr., was picked as the junior sportscaster. That was December 4, 2007 against Michigan State. That was an incredible night to be in the booth with you, Joe Stowell, and the others. You were all very gracious and friendly. It was so fun to have that experience. Congratulations on your 1000th game. We look forward to hearing you for a long time to come. You ARE a huge part of Bradley basketball.
Steve Bennett | Morton, IL

Congratulations Dave on your 1,000 games with Bradley Basketball. Your professionalism and skills have made a significant mark for Bradley, the Peoria area, and broadcasting in general. It was my pleasure to have worked with you for a number of years but more importantly It's been my honor to call you a friend. Great job!
Duane Funk

Dave, Congratulations on your 1000th game. You have been a class act for all of these games. My wife and I have either attended or listened to at least 995 of these. Our favorite Dave Snell moment is still your rendition of "New York, New YorK" that followed the BU win at the Fieldhouse that sent us to NY for the NIT. Best wishes for at least another 500.
Joe Emanuel | Peoria, IL

When I was a freshman in college, in the fall of 1985, I was excited to venture out on my own and chose a school 450 miles away from Peoria. I loved my new-found independence and struggled very little with homesickness - until one night when I called my parents and heard your voice in the background, broadcasting a game. I could barely hold back the tears until I got off the phone. Yours was the voice of "home" and memories of great times with my family!

Congrats on 1,000, Dave! Having worked in the same building with you for a few years, I've seen the incredible behind-the-scenes efforts that go into your broadcasts, both in and out of basketball season. I've also seen the countless students and student-athletes for whom you always make the time to share your experience and wisdom. But I must say my favorite memory is seeing the expression on your face upon receipt of the great camel at the Comstock white elephant exchange! Thanks for all the memories, friend.
Trish Blattenberger | West Peoria, IL

Congratulations Dave! The recognition is well deserved as you have been outstanding as the voice of the Braves! You always deliver an exciting play by play that makes the game so enjoyable to listen to and makes us feel as if we are actually there! We love your enthusiasm and the integrity you always display!
Chuck & Gwen Westendorf | Peoria, IL

David, Congratulations on your 1000th broadcast!!! What an accomplishment and Karen and I wish you the best as you continue your broadcast career. Bradley University is lucky to have someone as distinguished as yourself to be their voice for the Braves. We see you not only as the professional broadcaster that you are, but as a good friend. Keep up the good work and best wishes for the new year. Sincerely,
Bob and Karen Larson | Peoria, IL

Dave - Jim and I are so proud of your many accomplishments. You have come so far from the days of gathering around the piano in our basement, joining the singing and celebrating your medal from the national speech tournament. I still remember the picture of you with with congressman Gerald Ford at the breakfast, as well as the awful pancakes that Joni tried to make for you one time when you were hungry. Though we don't see each other, I always think of you whenever I see the word Bradley in the paper. Our heartiest congratulations to a great guy and an old friend.
Jeanne Ward | Groveland, IL

Congratulations Dave! My husband and I love listening to you broadcast Bradley basketball. If we are home and the game is not on tv we listen to you on the radio. If the game is on tv we turn the sound down and listen to you. After home games we turn on WMBD and listen to you on our way home. We love Bradley basketball, our first date was a Bradley basketball game and you make the games so special to listen to. Here is to many more broadcasts and congrats again.
Sharon Schmitt | East Peoria, IL

Dave, you are Bradley! Pray you have many, many more years to show your loyalty and continue to please us radio listeners who tune out the TV announcers and watch the televised games but listen to your broadcast of the games. KABOOM ONWARD.
Dr. Joan Kulpa (retired BU professor) | Peoria, IL

Hi Dave.... As both a Bradley fan and a broadcast fan, I am delighted that BU is honoring you for your 1,000th game! When fans listen they hear your smooth tones, your wealth of information and your seamless transitions from one aspect of the game to another, having no idea how much hard work goes into it, and the ability you have to do it! Congratulations on this achievement and I take comfort in the fact that there will be many more to come! Enjoy it all on Saturday!!
Jim Kelch (Cincinnati Reds) | Peoria, IL

Dave, Congratulations on 1,000 broadcasts; nobody does it better.
Michael and Paula Bryant | Lynchburg, VA

John Nelson | Singapore

Congratulations on your 1,000th broadcast! Our pre-game talks were great fun and always informative. You made us better fans. Thanks and all the best.
David and Sharon Broski | Holland, MI

Congratulations on your 1000th game! I remember listening to the Cincinnatti game with all of my cousins at my Grandma's and the cousins from Montana loved how you announced the game. I never have the volume on the TV, I alsways listen to the radio. I look forward to another 1000 games with you at the helm. Congrats again.
Karen Smith | Elmwood, IL

Congratulations, Dave, and thanks for bringing the perfect visual image every single time you call a game. As an avid Cardinal fan watching the Cardinals drive to the eventual World Champions, I can't tell you how many times I thought of YOU during those broadcasts. You would have added the level of excitement those moments warranted and made listening so much more exciting. I'm so glad for what you've done for Bradley, but the Cardinals need you, too!!!
L Miller | Peoria, IL

All the players, all the coaches, all the wins, and yes, all the losses. You have been there, Dave. And you have taken your listeners there. As someone who had the pleasure of working with you during the Hersey Hawkins era, it is easy for me to say that you ARE the Bradley Braves basketball experience for a lot of people. Congratulations and here's to many more games behind the microphone.
Tim Van Vooren | Milwaukee, WI

Dave, my family and I live Bradley Basketball because you make it possible. We can be "at" every game wherever it is. Thanks from all of us for being a great friend and wish you the very best! And we are WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!!!!!
Bob Sullivan | Avon, IL

David, congratulations on a wonderful milestone. I admit to stealing some of your methods (e.g., giving the time at nearly every stoppage). Your rhythm, style and enthusiasm serve as a model for all sportscasters. You've been a tremendous ambassador for Bradley, the Missouri Valley Conference and the community. Well done!
Greg Halbleib (WJBC) | Bloomington, IL

Congratulations Dave on your 1000th game. It's been great listening to you and few broadcasters can genuinely match your enthusiasm for calling a basketball game. We all know it comes from the heart which is what makes you so special to all of us. I'll never forget the Trusted Men of Olds commercials that you did for us....as usual the impressions were fantastic.
Rory Griggs | Groveland, IL

New York City NIT in 1982. You standing in the brosdcasting booth swinging you sports jacket above your head singing the song, NEW YORK NEW YORK, and we went on to win. One of our best moments of Bradley Basketball. I am sure it is one of yours also. Congratulations on being the Best College Basketball announcer.
Phyllis Carr | Peoria, IL

When my grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983, we wanted a tribute to them from President Ronald Reagan. As he was away at the time ending the Cold War, we contacted Dave Snell and asked him to do his best Reagan impression. His performance for us was a slam dunk! Thanks for the memories and congratulations Dave.
Jeffrey Leiken | San Francisco, CA

I missed the advanced "pub" on your 1,000th broadcast, so my message is late. What an unbelievable milestone! I remain in awe of your professionalism and loyalty. KABOOM.
David McAley | Chicago, IL

Congratulations, Dave. Sorry we had to miss the festivities but Jim had surgery on Thursday and is confined to quarters. We will look forward to reading all about it and look for the replays. You do a wonderful job -- keep up the good work.
Jim and Darlen Roodhouse | Pekin, IL

Mazel Tov on your milestone achievement!!! You have a lifetime of memories as the voice of Bradley B Ball!! I always enjoy our visits when Bradley ventures East to play and cherish the opportunity to hear you live!
Jeff Greenfield | Long Island, NY

David: Congratulations on your 1,000th Bradley Braves broadcast. Congratulations, not just for 1,000 broadcasts, but for how well you have done each and every one. Wish John could be here to share the moment. Best wishes for 1,000 more.
Steve Towry | Washington, IL

Dave, Congratulations! What a accomplishment! Some of my best memories of my time with the Bradley Basketball Program were your calls and being able to spend time with you. Kaboom! Continued Success!
Job Gunderson, Basketball Manager 1988-91 | Chicago Heights, IL

I'm pretty sure there isn't a better broadcaster out there than Dave Snell. I KNOW there isn't a better person!
John Walters | Ankeny, IA

Dave: Recognition is not something you personally seek out, but after 1,000 games I think it's time we pause and take time to appreciate all you've done for Bradley University over the years. All one has to do is read some of the messages on this board to realize that you have touched so many lives in a positive way, not only through your stellar and entertaining broadcasts, but personally as well. Never a better friend could anyone ask for. You are very special, and I hope you allow yourself to soak all this in, and enjoy it for yourself!
Jeff Loman | Downers Grove, IL

Dave, from a Wichita State alum and basketball fan, congratulations on this incredible achievement. I believe I met you while I was a student at WSU in the late 80s. I messed up saying something I now know I should have never said (because I confused you), and I'm still "embarrassed" to this day. But anyway, the only game call that I remember of you is that 75-foot buzzer beater in the 2009 CIT (thank you, SportsCenter). That was true excitement at its best. I had no idea you were the ONLY broadcaster in college basketball to cover the championship games of THREE postseason tournaments! WOW! We just had Mike Kennedy do his 1,000th straight game this season against UNLV, so you are in very select and great company. Dave, I appreciate great broadcasters like you who make college basketball the most exciting winter sport in America. Congratulations again on this historic milestone, and a big KABOOM!
