COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Bradley women's golf team turned in its second-lowest round of the fall, firing a second-round 309 as the Braves finished the opening day of play at the Johnie Imes Invitational in 16th.
Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) helped pace Bradley at the par-72 Club at Old Hawthorne Monday, closing the day tied for 34th at 153 after rounds of 76 and 77. Lemek enters Tuesday's final round three shots out of the top 20.
Sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) and freshman Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) both finished the day two shots back of Lemek in a tie for 47th at 155. Hedemann carded rounds of 78 and 77, while Walsh followed a first-round 81 with a season-best 74 for the lowest round of the day for the Braves.
Freshman Lindsey Levin (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) shot rounds of 83 and 84 in her first collegiate action to close Monday's play tied for 89th (167). Fellow freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) rounded out the team scoring for Bradley in a tie for 96th at 172, with scores of 91 and 81.
Bradley is 16th in the 19-team field, which includes 11 teams which finished the 2011-12 season ranked in the top 100 according to Golfweek.com, after 36 holes of play. SMU holds a six-shot lead on the field with a two-round score of 581 and is followed by K-State (2nd -587).
Tournament-host Missouri finished the day in third (594) with Indiana (4th - 596) and Louisville (5th - 602) rounding out the top five. Iowa is one shot back of Louisville in sixth (603) with Arkansas-Little Rock (7th - 604) and Florida International (8th - 605) close behind. Illinois State and Mississippi State are tied for ninth at 608, with Eastern Michigan following in 11th at 610.
UMKC, Oklahoma City and Missouri State are tied for 12th after day one at 623, holding a three-shot advantage on 15th-place Colorado State (626). Bradley is one shot behind the Rams in 16th at 627 and the Braves are 14 shots better than Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State, which finished the day in 17th at 641. Redlands Community College is 18th at 642 and Montana completes the field in 19th (645).
