Box Score PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Preseason Big West Conference co-favorite Pacific scored two runs in the top of the fifth to rally and top Bradley 3-2 Saturday afternoon to open the second day of play at the Stanford Nike Invitational.
Bradley (3-5 overall) led 2-1 after four innings, before Kelsey Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs with a two-run double in the top of the fifth to help Pacific (3-5 overall) rally for the 3-2 victory.
BU starter Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) got out of a jam in first after walking the bases loaded and the Braves took an early lead, pushing a run across in the bottom half of the inning.
Sophomore Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill.,/Catham Glenwood) had a single and Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) extended her hit streak to four consecutive games with a single of her own. After a double steal put runners at second and third with one out, Cole raced home on a throwing error on the play to give Bradley a 1-0 lead.
Pacific tied it up on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third. Megan Horn led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice before advancing to third on a single off the bat of Nikki Armagost, who went 3-for-3 on the day with a walk. Horn tied things up at 1-1 when she scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Nicoless Matson.
Bradley went back in front in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) drew a walk and was at third after a sacrifice bunt and single by freshman Shannon King (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty). King stole second and Clemente scored on the throw to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.
A leadoff double for Pacific in the top of the fifth proved costly. Megan Foglesong opened the frame with a double down the left field line and the Tigers had runners on the corners after an infield single knocked Camp out of the game. Armagost stole second to put two runners in scoring position and Rodriguez drove both runners in with a double to left as Pacific went in front 3-2.
Senior Lindsay Hufeld (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) gave up just two hits in three innings in relief of Camp, but Bradley managed two singles in the final three innings off Pacific hurler Tori Shepard and didn't advance a runner past first base during that stretch.
Camp took the loss for BU in the circle, falling to 1-2 on the year. Shepard struck out eight Bradley hitters and improved to 1-1 with the complete game victory.
Bradley continues play at the Stanford Nike Invitational later today at 6:45 p.m. (CST) against Pacific.
