LAKELAND, Fla. -- Senior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) opened the spring with her lowest round of the year, finishing the day tied for fourth and the Bradley women's golf team is sixth in the team standings after 36 holes of play at the Lady Moc Classic. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-72 Club at Eaglebrooke.
After battling injuries most of the fall, Amundrud got the spring off on a high note; shooting a season-best two-over par 74 in the morning before following it up with a second-round 77 to close Monday's action tied for fourth at 151.
The 74 was her best round since shooting a 73 in the second round at last year's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship and her best opening round since firing a 71 in the first round of the Payne Stewart Memorial on Oct. 18, 2010. She is four shots behind individual leader Rachel Polson (147) of Florida Tech after 36 holes.
Freshman Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) is six shots behind Amundrud in a tie for 26th at 157 after rounds of 79 and 78. Fellow freshman Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) rebounded from a tough opening round (87) to match her season-best score of 74. Lin is four shots behind Hedemann in a tie for 42nd at 161.
Sophomore Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) helped Bradley shoot an opening round 312, carding a first-round 77. She finished the day tied for 51st at 164, while senior Erin Gorman Rockford, Ill./Boylan) closed out the first day of play tied for 64th (167) after scores of 82 and 85 to round out the individual scoring for BU.
Seminole State holds a six-shot lead on the field heading into Tuesday's second round, finishing the day at 613. Tournament-host Florida Southern is second at 619 and has a one-shot lead on third-place Lynn (620). Barry finished Monday's action in fourth (621) with Nova Southeastern following in fifth at 622, after carding the lowest round of the day (299) in the second round.
Bradley had rounds of 312 and 314 and is sixth after 36 holes at 626. The Braves have a two-shot advantage on Flagler (628) and are 10 shots better than Embry-Riddle and California (Pa.), which finished the day tied for eighth at 636. Florida Tech rounds out the top 10 in the 17-team field at 638.
Bradley closes out play at the Lady Moc Classic Tuesday with one round, scheduled to begin at 7:15 a.m. (CST).
