Young Earns Honorable Mention MVC Scholar-Athlete Honors

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore men's golfer Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) earned honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete recognition according to an announcement by the league office Monday.

Young ranked third on the team with a 77.7 stroke average and was tied for second on the squad with 21 rounds in the 70's as a sophomore.  Bradley's active career leader with 41 career sub-80 rounds, he was medalist at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational in April and earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors that same week.

In the spring, Young owned a 77.0 stroke average and his 54-hole score of 215 at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational was the lowest three-round total by a Bradley individual since October 2009.  He received Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 11. 

A secondary education (history) major, Young owns a 3.87 cumulative grade point average and has been named to the Bradley AD Honor Roll each semester on The Hilltop.

The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.
