PEORIA, Ill. -- Five Bradley women's golfers were named National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholars, according to a recent announcement by the NGCA.
Former golfers Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) and Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) along with junior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) and sophomores Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) and Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) earned the distinction.
The NGCA All-American Scholar Team included a total of 585 women's collegiate golfers from NCAA Division I, II & III. The criteria for selection to the team required a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and competition in at least 50 percent of the rounds scheduled during the regular season.
Amundrud earned NGCA All-American Scholar honors for the third consecutive year and was a two-time Capital One Academic All-American. She finished her career with the best stroke average in school (77.11) and a school career-record 87 rounds in the 70's. A finalist for Bradley's Charles Orsborn Award, Amundrud owns a 3.94 cumulative grade point average.
Gorman ranked fifth on the team with a career-best 82.8 stroke average in her final season on The Hilltop. She carded a career-low 75 in the opening round of the State Farm MVC Championship and finished 29th overall in her final collegiate event. Gorman was named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after tying for 17th at the Pat Bradley Invitational and owned a 3.52 cumulative grade point average in dietetics.
The 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, Hedemann was a First-Team All-MVC performer. She ranked second on the team with a 77.9 stroke average, owning the third lowest average by a BU freshman and posted four top-10 finishes. Hedemann tied for fifth at the State Farm MVC Championship and ended the year with six consecutive rounds in the 70's. A biochemistry major, she posted a 3.77 cumulative grade point average in her first year at BU.
Lin led the team and posted the lowest season stroke average by a Bradley freshman with a 77.6 average in 2011-12. She finished in the top 20 in seven of 12 tournaments, including two top-10 finishes, and her 26 rounds in the 70's ranks second among BU season marks. Lin's stroke average of 77.63 was the ninth lowest season average in school history and she finished ninth at the State Farm MVC Championship. An actuarial science major, Lin owns a 3.58 cumulative grade point average heading into her sophomore year.
Marschall came on late in the year, posting a 76.5 stroke average in her final two tournaments. She was fourth on the team with an 82.2 season stroke average in her first year on The Hilltop after transferring from Wisconsin-Green Bay. Marschall tied for 18th at the State Farm MVC Championship, matching her season low with a 74 in the final round. A health science major, she owns a 3.58 cumulative grade point average.
