Two former Bradley Basketball players have signed with NBA franchises for the Summer League season, while two more former Braves have signed with French teams for the 2012-13 season to highlight the recent activities of the Bradley Basketball Braves in the Pros.
Patrick O'Bryant, who played in both Greece and Puerto Rico during the 2011-12 season, has signed with the Phoenix Suns for the NBA Summer League season. After completing his second season with the Texas Legends, the NBA Developmental League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Roberts has signed with the Mavs for the 2012 NBA Summer League circuit.
Both O'Bryant and Roberts will begin play in the 2012 Las Vegas NBA Summer League Sunday at COX Pavilion. Phoenix will take on New York in Sunday's first game at 3 p.m. (CDT), immediately followed by Dallas against Denver in the 5 o'clock game. The Las Vegas NBA Summer League schedule will continue through July 22 at both COX Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center. Dallas will play five games and Phoenix four, but the former Braves will not oppose each other during the 10-day event.
Every game from the 2012 NBA Summer League sites in Orlando and Las Vegas are being streamed live through the NBA.com website.
In his sixth season as a professional, O'Bryant began the 2011-12 season with Enosi Kalathosfairisis Kavalas in the Greece A1 league, where he averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots in 19 games. In February, he joined Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rico's BSN league and went on to earn honorable mention all-league honors by averaging 11.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots in 39 games.
After beginning his second pro season with Fuerza Regia Monterrey in Mexico's LNBP, Roberts joined the Legends in December and played in 35 D-League games, averaging 12.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Playing 27.8 minutes per game, he shot 44.8 percent from the field, 31.0 percent from 3-point range and 84.7 percent from the free throw line.
While O'Bryant and Roberts will be showcasing their talents in the NBA Summer Leagues in hopes of attracting offers for the 2012-13 season, former Bradley star Marcellus Sommerville is honing his skills on campus as he prepares for a return to France. Sommerville recently signed a 2-year contract with Sluc Nancy Basket Pro in France's ProA league.
A 6-foot-7 forward, Sommerville is a six-year overseas veteran who has become a fixture in the French ProA league. He was a second-team all-league selection and an all-defensive team pick this past season after helping Le Mans to the French ProA Finals. Sommerville averaged 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 2011-12, including 11.3 ppg and 6.3 rebounds in a 2-games-to-1 elimination of Nancy in the semifinals of the ProA playoffs.
Sommerville will have Bradley company in France next season. After helping the Halifax Rainmen to a runner-up finish in Canada's NBL, former Bradley forward Lawrence Wright has signed with Orchesien BC in France's NM1 league for the 2012-13 season. Wright was a first-team All-NBL pick this past season after averaging 15.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
