VANCOUVER, B.C. - A promotion and a move back to his natural position fueled a hot week for former Bradley shortstop Jason Leblebijian. Promoted to the Class A Short-Season Vancouver Canadians in the Northwest League last week, Leblebijian has hit .500 with two doubles and two home runs in his first four games with his new team.
A 25th-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays last month, Leblebijian began his first pro season with the Bluefield Blue Jays in the rookie Appalachian League, and playing primarily at third base, he hit just .194 in his nine games at Bluefield.
Leblebijian began his new assignment Thursday with a start at shortstop and responded by going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Again starting at shortstop in Friday's series-finale at Salem-Keizer, Leblebijian was 2-for-3 with his first two career professional home runs. In his first two home games against Everett over the weekend, Leblebijian was 1-for-3 both Saturday and Sunday, legging out a second double and driving in three runs. Extended by his 4-game hitting streak to start his Vancouver stint, Leblebijian has reached base safely via a hit or a walk in eight consecutive games.
Leblebijian is one of seven former Bradley Baseball players currently playing minor league baseball around the country.
Among the other highlights for the Braves in the Pros last week, former Bradley pitcher Rob Scahill picked up a pair of wins as a starting pitcher for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. After allowing three runs on four hits in 7.0 innings Tuesday at Sacramento, Scahill (7-9) followed up by allowing two unearned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings Sunday against Reno. With 11 total strikeouts in the two games, Scahill enters the Triple-A All-Star break tied for second in the Pacific Coast League with 99 strikeouts in his 18 starts.
