NORMAL, Ill. -- Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) carded a final-round 74 and tied sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) for sixth in the individual standings as the duo helped the Bradley women's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Redbird Invitational Sunday.
Lemek's two-over par 74 at the par-72 Weibring Golf Course was the third lowest round of the day and helped the freshman break into the top 10 in the final standings. She tied Hedemann, who shot a third-round 81 Sunday, for sixth at 229. The sixth-place finish is the best by a freshman in a season-opening event in school history.
Junior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/ Wisconsin-Green Bay) also ended the season-opening tournament on a high note, firing a 79 to close play tied for 25th at 235. Freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) matched her first-round score of 80 on the final day of play and was nine shots behind Marschall in a tie for 43rd at 244.
Sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) completed the team scoring for the Braves, tying for 67th in the 86-person field 253 after shooting a third-round 88.
Bradley's final-round score of 314 helped the Braves finish action fifth in the team standings at 936, three shots behind fourth-place finisher Ball State (933). Toledo won the team title by 13 shots with a score of 915. Bowling Green was second in the standings at 928, edging third-place Illinois State (930).
Akron was five shots behind Bradley in sixth (941) and the Braves had a 10-shot advantage on seventh-place Southern Illinois (946). Eastern Kentucky and Drake tied for eighth (959) and Ohio rounded out the top 10 in the tournament field four shots back in 10th (963). Oakland (11th - 968), Western Illinois (12th - 969), South Dakota State 13th - 981), Evansville (14th - 992) and Illinois Wesleyan (15th - 998) completed the field, respectively.
Bradley returns to action Sept. 17 & 18 at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky.
