PEORIA, Ill. -- After earning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors earlier this week, junior guard Walt Lemon, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./Julian) added another honor after being named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week Wednesday.
Lemon averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a pair of 69-66 home victories last week. Against Southern Illinois, he had 16 points and three steals, while tying a career-best with eight assists. In Saturday's victory against Missouri State, Lemon scored a game-high 20 points, including the game-winning points on a buzzer beater. A psychology major, Lemon owns a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Lemon and the Bradley men's basketball team return to action tonight, opening a two-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing with a 7:05 p.m. at Evansville.
