Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley took the opening set from league-leading Wichita State 25-22, but the Shockers hit a combined .364 over the next three frames and handed the Braves a 25-22, 11-25, 19-25, 17-25 setback Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum in the final home match of the season for BU.
Senior Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) turned in her team-leading 11th double-double of the year with team highs of 14 kills and 15 digs in the final home match of her career. Her 11 double-doubles this fall are the most in a season by a Bradley player since 2008.
Bradley (12-13 overall, 6-10 MVC) limited Wichita State to a .122 hitting percentage in the first frame and won the stanza 25-22 behind four kills each from Tupuritis and fellow senior Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan). Wichita State (25-6 overall, 14-3 MVC) jumped out to a 5-1 lead and led 9-3 before the Braves battled back. With Bradley leading 22-21, back-to-back kills by Tupuritis and Angelos gave Bradley set point at 24-21. Junior Allie Falter (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) followed a Shocker kill with her third of the set to close out a 25-22 BU victory.
Wichita State hit a blistering .436 in the second set and cruised to a 25-11 win after opening the frame with seven consecutive points. Sam Sanders led the Shockers with six kills on 16 attacks with no errors in the set to help Wichita State pull even in the match.
The Braves were within one point at 15-14 in the second set after a Shocker attack error, but Wichita State scored the next seven points to take a commanding 22-14 lead. The Shockers went on to take the set 25-19.
Ashley Andrade took over for Wichita State in the fourth set, collecting six kills on just seven swings to help the Shockers hit .464 in the final stanza. Andrade had back-to-back kills and added a block to help highlight a 7-0 Wichita State run, which broke a 7-7 tie to put the Shockers in front 14-7. The Braves got no closer than five points down the stretch as Wichita State finished out the match with a 25-17 victory.
Angelos was the only other Bradley player to reach double figures, finishing with 10 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) tied Tupuritis for team-high honors with 15 digs and senior Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) collected 14 digs and a pair of aces in the loss. Falter hit .412 and had eight kills in the final home match of her career.
Andrade tallied a match-high 16 kills to pace the Shockers and had just one hitting error, while hitting .600. She also had eight blocks to help Wichita State to an 11-5 advantage in blocks. Sanders finished with 13 kills, while setter Chelsey Feekin had four kills, 44 assists, two aces, 10 digs and five blocks. Libero Dani Mostrom helped the Shockers out dig Bradley 80-65 with a match-high 30 digs.
Bradley returns to action Friday, with a 7 p.m. match at Northern Iowa, before closing out the regular season next Saturday at Drake.
