Moyer And Braves Shine At Huskie Open

DEKALB, Ill. -- Sophomore Marshall Moyer (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) won the individual title at the NIU Huskie Open Friday afternoon to lead the Bradley men's cross country team, which had the top seven finishers, and freshman Lauren Cunningham (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) was fifth among the female entries to pace the Bradley women's cross country team in the final race before the NCAA Regional for both teams.

Moyer won the individual title by nearly eight seconds with a 5K time of 15:38.07 and paced a pack of seven Bradley runners at the front of the field.  Overall, the Bradley men's cross country team had 12 of the top 13 individuals at the un-scored meet, with freshman Caleb Beck (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) taking second at 15:45.86.  Sophomore Cole Dill (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) was close behind in third at 15:47.00 to edge out freshman Daniel Gagne (Wauwatosa, Wis./East), who was fourth at 15:48.72.  Senior Nathan Davis (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) clocked a 16:13.31 to round out the top five for the Braves.

Cunningham was fifth among the female entries and finished among a pack of 10 Northwestern runners with a time of 18:50.18.  Jena Pianin paced the Wildcats and was the top female finisher at 18:24.85.  Freshman Katie Wampole (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) missed a top-10 time among the female competitors by less than six seconds and crossed the line at 19:23.15 at the NIU North 40 Cross Country Course.

Senior Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) followed with a time of 19:27.56, while freshman Nicole Lopez-Villegas (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) turned in a time of 19:32.66 to place 15th among the females in the race.  Junior Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) completed the top five individuals for the Bradley women close behind Lopez-Villegas at 19:33.77. 

Both the men's and women's cross country teams will be in action next week, taking part in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, Friday, Nov. 15.
